Multichannel minisparker and boomer seismic-reflection and chirp sub bottom data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in September of 2013 in Port Valdez, Alaska. Data were collected aboard the USGS R/V Alaskan Gyre during field activity G-01-13-GA. Sub-bottom acoustic penetration spans several hundreds of meters and is variable by location. High-resolution multichannel seismic-reflection data were acquired to support the U.S. Geological Survey Alaska coastal and marine hazards project to explore the sedimentary structure of tsunamigenic landslide deposits around an IODP drill site in Port Valdez. High-resolution acoustic backscatter data, bathymetry data, single channel minisparker seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in May of 2014 southwest of Chenega Island and southwest of Montague Island, Alaska. Data were collected aboard the Alaska Department of Fish and Game vessel, R/V Solstice, during USGS field activity 2014-622-FA, using a pole mounted 100-kHz Reson 7111 multibeam echosounder, a 500 Joule SIG 2-mille minisparker sound source and a single channel streamer.

In March 2015, the U.S. Geological Survey acquired seismic reflection and refraction data along an approximately 2.8-km-long profile across northwest-trending San Andreas Fault splays located at the Dos Palmas Preserve east of Salton Sea. To acquire the reflection and refraction data, we collocated shots and geophones, spaced every 3 m along the profile. We used 933 SercelTM L40A P-wave (40-Hz vertical-component) geophones with a sensitivity of 22.34 volts/meter/second to record 925 P-wave shots. We generated P-wave data using one of two active sources: 400-grain Betsy-SeisgunTM shots at approximately every 90 m and a 3.5-kg sledgehammer and steel plate combination at every 3 m between the seisgun shots. Near-surface site characteristics are critical for accurately modeling ground motion, which in turn influences seismic hazard analysis and design of critical infrastructure. Currently, there are many strong motion accelerometers within the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) that are missing this information. We use a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) based framework to intersect the site coordinates of approximately 5,500 ANSS accelerometers located throughout the United States and its territories with geology and velocity information. This dataset comprises a vector shapefile of the Puerto Rico geologic map from Bawiec et al. (1999), clipped to study areas in the Lares, Utuado, and Naranjito municipalities, with a modified basal contact of the Tertiary Lares Limestone (Tla) re-mapped using a lidar-derived digital elevation model (DEM) (USGS, 2018). The limestone unit of interest forms a prominent break in slope with the underlying geologic units, and this break in slope was mapped as the Tla basal contact. Only the southern contact of the Tla unit was modified. This dataset of the elevation of basement and thickness of sediment above the syn- and post-rift unconformity (sediments above being generally Late Cretaceous and younger) was constructed for application to site response models in earthquake hazard analyses. Sediment thickness in meters is provided in zipped csv format on a 0.01-degree grid, and sediment thickness and basement elevation in meters relative to mean sea level are provided in GeoTIFF format on a 1-km grid.

This data release provides access to a low-altitude, aeromagnetic survey of a part of south-central Washington and north-central Oregon. The survey extends from the Blue Mountains westward to the Cascade Range and covers the Oregon cities of The Dalles, Hermiston, and Milton Freewater and the Washington cities of Richland, Pasco, Kennewick, and Walla Walla. Data were acquired during the summer of 2010 by Goldak Airborne Surveys working under contract to the U.S. Geological Survey. We present whole-rock geochemical analyses of 12 core samples obtained from three serpentinite mud volcanoes (Yinazao, Asut Tesoru, and Fantangisna) located on the forearc of the Mariana subduction system, where the Pacific Plate descends beneath the Philippine Sea Plate. The core was collected during International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 366 of 2016-2017. The materials comprising the mud volcanoes have risen diapirically along normal faults in the forearc that may extend down to the subducting slab. Ten of the samples are thoroughly serpentinized ultramafic rocks. Compilation of field data collected in the Oregon Coast Range Tyee Formation. Location, strike and dip, Relative composition and bed thickness of interbedded sandstone and siltstone, Schmidt Hammer stiffness, notes, and sampled landslide density are provided. Landslide density is calculated using the manually mapped landslide deposit polygons from LaHusen et al. (2020).
In this database, we compile and host several available onshore and offshore geologic, paleoseismic, geophysical, and instrumental datasets along the Cascadia subduction zone. The ScienceBase data release and downloadable map package is accompanied by an ArcGIS online map and StoryMap.

This data release contains 25 multichannel minisparker seismic reflection (MCS) profiles and 41 chirp sub-bottom profiles that were collected in February of 2016 from the Catalina Basin offshore southern California by the U.S. Geological Survey Pacific and Coastal Marine Science Center in cooperation with the University of Washington. Data were collected aboard the University of Washington’s R/V Thomas G. Thompson on USGS cruise 2016-616-FA. MCS profiles were collected to image the Catalina and San Clemente fault systems as well as the San Gabriel Canyon and Channel system.

This data release contains four GIS shapefiles, one Google Earth kmz file, and five metadata files that summarize results from Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) analyses in the Glacier Bay region of Alaska and British Columbia. The principal shapefile (Moving_Ground) and the kmz file (GBRegionMovingGround) contain polygons delineating slow-moving (0.5-6 cm/year in the radar line-of-sight direction) landslides and subsiding fan deltas in the region. This Data Release provides the compilation of offset measurement datasets and associated fault data to accompany the manuscript “Climatic influence on the expression of strike-slip faulting” by Reitman et al. In addition to a ReadMe file, it includes two tabular datasets, one code, and one text file. The datasets are a compilation of offset measurement data (“data_multiple_eq_offsets.xlsx”) from 31 studies of strike-slip faults with multiple earthquakes, and the associated fault data (“fault_data" provided in csv and xlsx formats) with inputs necessary to do the analysis described in the accompanying manuscript. The U.S. Geological Survey acquired high-resolution P- and S-wave seismic data across the Frijoles Fault strand of the San Gregorio Fault Zone (SGFZ) at Año Nuevo, California in 2012. The SGFZ is a Holocene-active, dominantly right-lateral fault system that trends more than 200 km along the California coastline. The Frijoles Fault is one of several onshore strands of the SGF system, and together the strands represent a 3- to 4-km wide fault zone at Año Nuevo. Prior paleoseismology studies indicate highly variable slip-rate estimates, indicating considerable uncertainty about the slip history of the SGFZ and the seismic hazard it poses. A fundamental question in seismic hazard analysis is whether <30º-dipping low-angle normal faults (LANFs) slip seismogenically. In comparison to more steeply dipping (45-60º) normal faults, LANFs have the potential to produce stronger shaking because of their increased possible rupture area in the seismogenic crust. While LANFs have been documented globally, examples of seismogenically active LANFs are limited. The western margin of the Panamint Range in eastern California is defined by an archetypal LANF that dips west beneath Panamint Valley.
