The South Atlantic LCC is seeking technical assistance in evaluating the past, current, and future condition of the ecological systems of the South Atlantic. The South Atlantic LCC is currently doing a “State of the South Atlantic” assessment to evaluate the past, current, and future condition of 9 broad ecosystem types. This procurement focuses on the approximately 71 ecological systems that exist completely or partially within the South Atlantic and are nested within the 9 South Atlantic LCC ecosystem types. South Atlantic LCC staff and collaborators are seeking technical assistance in evaluating the past, current, and future condition of the ecological systems of the South Atlantic and a concise report documenting...

This report provides a first-ever compilation of what is known—and not known—about climate change effects on freshwater aquatic and riparian ecosystems in the geographic extent of the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service funded this report to help inform members of the newly established NPLCC as they assess priorities and begin operations. Production of this report was guided by University of Washington’s Climate Impacts Group and information was drawn from more than 250 documents and more than 100 interviews. Information in this report focuses on the NPLCC region, which extends from Kenai Peninsula in southcentral Alaska to Bodega Bay in northwestern California,...
This report describes an effort of a team of 60 scientists led by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to identify the places where nature’s own natural resilience is the highest. Thanks to the land’s diverse topography, bedrock, and soil, these climate-resilient sites are more likely to sustain native plants, animals, and natural processes into the future, becoming natural strongholds for diversity. To map their locations, The Nature Conservancy-led team used over 70 new and comprehensive datasets to find places that are buffered from the effects of climate change because the site offers a wide range of micro-climates within a highly connected area. In 2015, the results were published in a leading conservation science...

The role of lynx dispersal in maintaining their populations at the landscape scale is unclear. A large proportion of local lynx populations are known to disperse following a snowshoe hare population crash, but whether these dispersal events contribute to the cyclic dynamics of neighboring populations is not well understood. If lynx dispersal does play an important role in lynx population dynamics then the conservation of dispersal corridors is critical to maintaining those dynamics. However, we currently have no information on the habitat requirements of dispersing lynx in relation to human land use, such as housing developments, road building, timber harvest, and mining, all of which could have a substantial impact...

This collection of reports are summaries of annual aerial surveys of molting geeze conducted near Teshekpuk Lake beginning in 2003. Annual reports completed for surveys conducted prior to 2003 are not in digital format. To access to these, please contact Migratory Bird Management-Alaska Region Waterfowl Department (USFWS) directly. Because not all reports were completed within the same year as the corresponding aerial surveys, file naming format for each report was standardized to: [YYYY] _ [author] _ [(coauthor)] _ briefDescription. All markdown code used to produce reports starting in 2016 can be found here and is also located on the Alaska Regional Data Repository (GitHub_Annual_Report_Code folder).

These data were compiled to allow examination of northern spotted owl territorial occupancy dynamics, especially with regards to the roles played by habitat and competition with barred owl in past and future dynamics. Data are estimates of parameters derived from previous modelling of northern spotted owl territorial occupancy dynamics. These data were collected as part of monitoring of northern spotted owl demography. Associated code allows analysis of these estimates to understand the roles of competition and habitat in recent northern spotted owl declines and to predict the future of northern spotted owl under various management scenarios.

These data are comprised of two tables, one of primers used for PCR amplifications and the other containing North American (n = 105), Mongolian (n = 1) and Russian (n = 5) ermine (Mustela spp.) sample accessions and NCBI GenBank DNA sequence accessions for mitogenomes and four nuclear genes (agouti signaling protein [ASIP], feline sarcoma [FES], growth hormone receptor [GHR], and serotonin receptor 1b [HTR1B]). All samples were obtained from collections at the University of Alaska Museum of the North or the University of New Mexico’s Museum of Southwestern Biology.

Vegetation change is an important issue facing managers at Isle Royale National Park (ISRO). These data were created using high-resolution imagery collected in the winter of 2017 which was compared to the vegetation map of the National Park published in 2000 (project imagery collected in 1994 and 1996). These data review where vegetation cover type, density, and pattern have changed since imagery collection for the 2000 publication and provide a proposed reason for the change.

Photo-interpretation of high-resolution aerial imagery was used to delineate individual stems of select woody species and to map vegetation communities at Palmyra Atoll, USA. Imagery collected using Unoccupied Aerial Systems in October, 2016, as well as derived elevation and mosaicked orthoimagery, were used to delineate individual crowns of coconut, Pisonia and other selected woody species that comprise the bulk of the canopy on the island. National Vegetation Classification System vegetation associations and other vegetation communities were also mapped. Finally, the high tide line was delineated to provide an updated map and estimate of area for terrestrial resources.

The RCMAP (Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection) dataset quantifies the percent cover of rangeland components across the western U.S. using Landsat imagery from 1985-2021. The RCMAP product suite consists of nine fractional components: annual herbaceous, bare ground, herbaceous, litter, non-sagebrush shrub, perennial herbaceous, sagebrush, shrub, and tree, in addition to the temporal trends of each component. Several enhancements were made to the RCMAP process relative to prior generations. First, we have trained time-series predictions directly from 331 high-resolution sites collected from 2013-2018 from Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) instead of using the 2016 “base” map as an intermediary....

The RCMAP (Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection) dataset quantifies the percent cover of rangeland components across western North America using Landsat imagery from 1985-2023. The RCMAP product suite consists of ten fractional components: annual herbaceous, bare ground, herbaceous, litter, non-sagebrush shrub, perennial herbaceous, sagebrush, shrub, tree, and shrub height in addition to the temporal trends of each component. Several enhancements were made to the RCMAP process relative to prior generations. First, high-resolution training was revised using an improved neural-net classifier and modelling approach. These data serve as foundation to the RCMAP approach. The training database was...

The RCMAP (Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection) dataset quantifies the percent cover of rangeland components across the western U.S. using Landsat imagery from 1985-2020. The RCMAP product suite consists of eight fractional components: annual herbaceous, bare ground, herbaceous, litter, non-sagebrush shrub, perennial herbaceous, sagebrush, shrub and rule-based error maps including the temporal trends of each component. Several enhancements were made to the RCMAP process relative to prior generations. We used an updated version of the 2016 base training data, with a more aggressive forest mask and reduced shrub and sagebrush cover bias in pinyon-juniper woodlands. We pooled training data in areas...

This dataset includes modeled outputs for structural connectivity and trends in connectivity patterns in the sagebrush biome of the United States at 270-meter resolution. Connectivity was calculated using an omnidirectional circuit-based algorithm, with sources, targets, and conductance based on sagebrush fractional component from the RCMAP sagebrush products for 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. Cumulative current density was used to represent connectivity and normalized cumulative current density represented relative flow patterns. We also calculated rasters to represent linear trend in connectivity class, relative flow, and the consistency of connectivity classes.

Management and disturbances have significant effects on grassland forage production. When using satellite remote sensing to monitor climate impacts such as drought stress on annual forage production, minimizing these effects provides a clearer climate signal in the productivity data. The use of an ecosystem performance approach for assessment of seasonal and interannual climate impacts on forage production in semi-arid grasslands proved to be a successful method in a case study covering the Nebraska Sandhills. In this study we developed a time series (2000-2018) of the Expected Ecosystem Performance (EEP), which serves as a proxy for annual forage production after accounting for non-climatic influences, while minimizing...

This is a collection of datasets that are comprised final MBM-AK TLSA molting goose aerial survey data. Using R code produced by Brad Shults (files ending in .Rmd found in ‘GitHub_Annual_Report_Code’), these data were produced from the raw survey data (‘raw_data’); some quality control was completed using this GitHub R code, though some columns of these datasets still contain errors and these data are not tidy. However, these data are used to produce figures and tables in annual reports so no further tidying or quality control was conducted for these data. Additional details can be found in entity and domain data dictionary definitions.

This dataset was created by Heather Wilson and sent to Julian Fischer on 6/29/21 and forwarded by him to Maggie Harings on 7/1/21. Heather created this document in order to track general survey details including pilot names, observer names, aircraft types used during each survey, and survey notes for the MBM-AK TLSA molting goose surveys. This document has not been tidied and it is unclear whether is has been put through a quality control process. In addition, Heather made several attempts to track down missing information in this document for survey years 1982-1999 but was unsuccessful. Therefore, this document is incomplete and should be treated as such. For additional information regarding this document, please...
