This dataset supercedes an earlier data release and includes all previous data in addition to data from 2019. These data represent the network-adjusted results of relative- and absolute-gravity surveys. Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste D-series relative-gravity meter. The effect of solid Earth tides and ocean loading were removed from the data. Instrument drift was removed by evaluating gravity change during repeated measurements at one or more base stations. Absolute-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste, Inc. A-10 absolute-gravity meter. Vertical gradients between the different measuring heights of the absolute- and relative-gravity meters were measured using...

These normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) raster data were compiled to develop time series data of the lower Colorado River (LCR) riparian corridor vegetation greenness and phenology since the year 2000. An objective of our study was to evaluate short and long-term effects of drought and biocontrol on LCR riparian and aquatic ecosystems south of Hoover Dam. These data represent spatially explicit scaled normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI*) difference maps between two decades (2000 to 2010 and 2011 to 2020) and two 5 year periods (2000 to 2005 and 2016 to 2020). NDVI* is an additional correction to the NDVI to account for the illumination conditions; it is a processing correction step to improve...

This child item model archive summary documents a surrogate regression model to estimate suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) at the Mohawk River above State Highway 30A at Fonda, New York. (U.S. Geological Survey station number 01349527). The methods used follow USGS guidance in relevant Office of Surface Water/Office of Water Quality Technical Memoranda and USGS Techniques and Methods, book 3, chap. 4 (Rasmussen and others, 2009). Thirty-nine concurrent measurements of SSC and turbidity, collected from June 12, 2015, through May 28, 2020, were used in the model calibration dataset. Samples were collected across 94 percent of the range in observed discharge and 24 percent of the range in observed turbidity during...

The U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center collected data to investigate sediment dynamics in the shallows of San Pablo Bay in two deployments: February to March 2011 (ITX11) and May to June 2012 (ITX12). This data release includes time-series data and grain-size distributions from sediment grabs collected during the deployments. During each deployment, time series of current velocity, water depth, and turbidity were collected at several stations in the shallows, and one station in the channel. Velocity and depth (pressure) were collected at high frequency (10 Hz) to allow calculation of wave parameters and turbulence statistics. Instrumentation and data collected in the two deployments...

First Release: Aug 2017 Revised: May 2018 (ver. 1.1) Time-series data of velocity, pressure, turbidity, conductivity, and temperature were collected near the mouth of the Elwha River, Washington, USA, from December 2010 through October 2014, for the Department of Interior’s Elwha River Restoration project. As part of this project, the U.S. Geological Survey studied the effects of renewed sediment supplies on the coastal ecosystems before, during, and following the removal of two dams, Elwha and Glines Canyon, from the Elwha River. Removal of the dams reintroduced sediment stored in the reservoirs to the river, and the river moved much of this sediment to the coast. Several benthic tripods were instrumented with...

Surface-based 2D electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys were used to investigate the distribution of permafrost at wetland sites on the alluvial plain north of the Tanana River, 20 km southwest of Fairbanks, Alaska, in June and September 2014. The sites contained habitat types characteristic of interior Alaska, including thermokarst bog, forested permafrost plateau, and a rich fen. These habitats range from treed to open and vary in groundcover vegetation and peat thickness. Individual surveys used a cable with 56 electrodes at 2-m spacing. At a fen site, ERT surveys were performed across a mixed spruce forest area across a vegetation gradient into an open fen area. At a bog site, surveys were performed...

This raster dataset quantifies the relative flow patterns of structural sagebrush connectivity in the sagebrush biome at 270-meter resolution. Connectivity was calculated using an omnidirectional circuit-based algorithm, with sources, targets, and conductance based on sagebrush fractional component from the RCMAP sagebrush products for 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. Normalized cumulative current density was used to represent relative flow of connectivity and binned into 3 relative flow classes (impeded, diffuse, and channelized flow). We calculated the relative flow temporal trends for channelization and impedance between 1985 and 2020 to identify areas that were becoming more channelized or...

These full time-series period statistics data were compiled for monitoring riparian zone trends and changes in the lower Colorado as part of a study to document riparian ecosystem health and its water use. Our study evaluated the short and long-term effects on the river's vegetation of drought and hydrological processes in this dryland region. Because of the landscape changes, we explored remote sensing-based change analysis techniques and data to develop time series data of the Colorado River riparian corridor vegetation greenness, phenology, and water use since the year 2000. We divided the river into five Reaches (R3..R7) to separate between the different land covers, management conditions, and general geospatial...

Ice breakup dates of Chequamegon Bay, Lake Superior from 1911 to 2022 were compiled by Lori Evrard (USGS, GLSC, Lake Superior Biological Station, Ashland, WI). Ice breakup date is the day in spring when winter ice cover substantially leaves a water body. Local residents deem "ice breakup" as when the ice moves northeast of a line straight across Chequamegon Bay out from Ellis Avenue (State highway 13). Another way ice breakup was determined has been if you could drive a boat from the outlet of Fish Creek to Houghton Point. The ice may move back and forth over that line but the ice is breaking up, moving and melting from that date on. Ellis Avenue ends on a bluff (46.5925 degrees North, 90.8827 degrees West) that...
