The temperature and surface geophysical data contained in this release have primarily been collected to support groundwater/surface water methods development, and to characterize the hydrogeological controls on native brook trout habitat. All data have been collected since 2010 along the Quashnet River corridor located on Cape Cod, MA, USA. Cape Cod is a peninsula in southeastern coastal Massachusetts, USA, composed primarily of highly permeable unconsolidated glacial moraine and outwash deposits. The largest of the Cape Cod sole-source aquifers occupies a western (landward) section of the peninsula, and is incised by several linear valleys that drain groundwater south to the Atlantic Ocean via baseflow-dominated...

A digital model of the sedimentary Northern Atlantic Coastal Plain aquifer system is composed of 20 rasters and hydrogeologic unit extent polygons. Rasters describe the top elevations of regional aquifers and confining units at a resolution of 2640 feet (1/2 mile). The rasters are clipped to the extent polygons, which represent the spatial extents of the hydrogeologic units onshore and several miles offshore. This three-dimensional hydrogeologic model was constructed as part of a U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program study of groundwater availability in the Northern Atlantic Coastal Plain (NACP) aquifer system, including parts of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina....

In 1991, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) began a study of more than 50 major river basins across the Nation as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project of the National Water-Quality Program. One of the major goals of the NAWQA project is to determine how water-quality conditions change over time. To support that goal, long-term consistent and comparable monitoring has been conducted on streams and rivers throughout the Nation. Outside of the NAWQA project, the USGS and other Federal, State, and local agencies also have collected long-term water-quality data to support their own assessments of changing water-quality conditions. Data from these multiple sources have been combined to support...

This data release provides source code and an R workspace with functions comprising a non-linear baseflow separation model, calibrated values of parameters and estimates of the baseflow component of daily streamflow at selected streamflow gages. Parameter values were determined by calibration of the model. Estimates of the baseflow component include daily values and the total baseflow as a fraction of streamflow for the analysis period. The file 'run_bf_sep.zip' in the directory 'Nonlinear Baseflow Model Source Code, Functions, and Scripts" has a complete set of model functions, parameters for 13,208 USGS streamflow gages, and a script to run the model. Instructions and software requirements for running the model...

This data release contains the standard statistical suite (version 1.0) daily streamflow performance benchmark results for the National Water Model Retrospective (v2.1) at streamflow benchmark locations defined by Foks and others (2022). Modeled hourly timesteps were converted to mean daily timesteps. Model error was determined by evaluating predicted daily mean streamflow versus observed daily mean streamflow using various statistics; the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), the Kling-Gupta efficiency (KGE), the logNSE, the Pearson correlation coefficient, the Spearman correlation coefficient, the ratio of the standard deviation, the percent bias, the percent bias in flow duration curve midsegment slope, the percent...

The Sparta aquifer is a primary source of groundwater in north-central Louisiana with more than 60 million gallons of water per day being withdrawn in 2015, and public supply and Industry account for over 90 percent of the water-use demand from the Sparta aquifer (Collier, 2018). Concentrated withdrawals from the Sparta aquifer have caused regional water-level declines within the Sparta aquifer (McGee and Brantly, 2015). Widespread concern about the potential effects of declining water levels has brought forth many questions regarding the sustainability of the aquifer as well as continued saltwater intrusion. In cooperation with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the U.S. Geological Survey...

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. From July 2019 to June 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Missouri Department...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) in ASCII format, generated from hydrographic surveys near six highway bridge structures over the Gasconade River in central Missouri. These sites were surveyed in June 2017 to help identify possible effects from extreme flooding on May 1-2, 2017. At the five downstream sites, hydrographic data were collected using a high-resolution multibeam echosounder mapping system (MBMS), which consists of a multibeam echosounder (MBES) and an inertial navigation system (INS) mounted on a marine survey vessel. Data were collected as the vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines distributed throughout the reach. Data collection software integrated and...

This dataset contains measurements of chemical concentrations of soil samples representing 28 headwater drainage basins completely within the Adirondack Park of New York State (ADK Park), one basin partially in the ADK Park, and one watershed 2 kilometers from the ADK Park boundary. Seven of these watersheds have been sampled 2 or 3 times over periods of 12 to 22 years. Soil samples were collected from pit faces exposed by shoveling. Total mass of organic matter, carbon and nitrogen in the forest floor are also presented for 16 headwater drainage basins in the ADK Park. Forest floor mass data were determined from samples collected with soil corers. The presented data are organized by six projects: the Adirondack...

This data release was prepared as part of an agreement between the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to support the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Of the many components of that agreement there is a specific task requiring the Enhancement of Digital Well Completion Reports. Well-completion reports (WCRs) contain information about the wells, such as construction characteristics and lithologic data that is very valuable to SGMA. The data set presented here is a compilation of lithologic information transcribed verbatim from a subset of WCRs contained in the DWR Online System for Well Completion Reports (OSWCR). The format of the lithologic...

Beaches and water recreation are important to the South Padre Island, Texas area and across the United States. The movement of sediment in channels along beaches and the nearshore environment is important for coastal stakeholders and resource managers. Sediment removed by maintenance dredging is often placed back into the littoral system for potential beach replenishment. The movement of sediment from offshore berms to onshore beaches is not well known. Sediment transport is highly dependent on local current conditions and seasonal conditions. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the City of South Padre Island, completed an oceanographic field study from August 2018 to February 2019 to investigate the...
