A GAP Analysis uses GIS layers provided by the GAP Analysis Program (species distribution models, stewardship data) to determine which areas within a species distribution have protected status and to identify possible conservation gaps. This GAP Analysis was conducted for Greater Sage-grouse within the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. About 7.6% of the Sage-grouse's total predicted distribution is within the SRLCC (based on GAP distribution models). There are four products in this ScienceBase item: an Excel spreadsheet with analysis data (see list below), a GIF image map of the SRLCC (displaying predicted sage-grouse distribution and areas with protected status), a map package containing the GIS layers used...

The USGS GAP land cover data, clipped to the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. All 5 levels of the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) system can be displayed in the map package. There is also an attached report from the GAP Land Cover Viewer, showing land cover areas (hectares and square miles) in the SRLCC and each category's percent of the total SRLCC area. From attached metadata: "This dataset combines the work of several different projects to create a seamless data set for the contiguous United States. Data from four regional Gap Analysis Projects and the LANDFIRE project were combined to make this dataset. In the Northwestern United States (Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington and Wyoming) data in...

Projected change in streamflow for 28 routing locations in the Southern Rockies LCC. The data were downloaded from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Streamflow Projections for the Western United States, a data portal developed as part of the West-Wide Climate Risk Analysis project. The portal provides projected stream flow time series projections for 195 locations in the western U.S. Projections are based on 112 hydroclimate projections from the Bias Corrected and Downscaled WCRP CMIP3 Hydrologic Projections. Citation: Reclamation, 2011. ‘West-Wide Climate Risk Assessments: Bias-Corrected and Spatially Downscaled Surface Water Projections’, Technical Memorandum No. 86-68210-2011-01, prepared by the U.S. Department...
This is a subfolder of the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SRLCC) community in ScienceBase. For more information about the SRLCC, see the SRLCC website or the U.S. Department of Interior’s website describing the LCCs.
This map package contains data from the USGS Protected Area Database (PAD-US) version 1.2. The original shapefile was clipped to the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. The data are displayed in two layers: one shows the owner name of the protected areas and the other shows the GAP status code (level of the protection) of the protected areas. To preview the data or view them without ArcMAP, there are two downloadable jpeg image files, showing screenshots of this map package with the owner name and status layers displayed. The data can also be viewed on the USGS Protected Areas Viewer. The Excel file "PAD-US Analysis" shows the composition of the SRLCC by owner and GAP status (% area of the SRLCC for each owner...

The GAP Land Cover data set contains several categories that represent human land use: Current and Historic Mining Activity, Developed Urban, Herbaceous Agricultural Vegetation and Recently Disturbed or Modified. This layer package shows the four categories in isolation from the complete data set, and converted to a shapefile format. The symbology is based on the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) level "formation", which is the 3rd level of thematic resolution in the GAP data set. The GAP GIS layer has been clipped to the boundary of the SRLCC. There is also an Excel table showing each category's percent of the total SRLCC area. From GAP land cover metadata: "this dataset combines the work of several different...

LANDFIRE Vegetation Condition Class (VCC) raster data set, clipped to the boundary of the Sourthern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SRLCC). VCC data quantifies the extent to which vegetation types have departed from simulated historical reference conditions. A VCC level of 1 represents a low level of departure, VCC 2 is moderate departure and VCC 3 is high departure. Other land cover categories are barren, sparsely vegetated, agriculture, urban, water and snow/ice. The attached Excel spreadsheet shows the area (square km) covered by each category, in the entire SRLCC and within its level III ecoregions. There is also an attached GIF preview image that shows how the raster data appear in ArcMAP. LANDFIRE...

There are 3 downloadable products in this item. The map package contains the footprint of the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative, showing level III ecoregions as defined by James Omernik (see metadata for citations). From metadata: "Ecoregions denote areas of general similarity in ecosystems and in the type, quality, and quantity of environmental resources. They are designed to serve as a spatial framework for the research, assessment, management, and monitoring of ecosystems and ecosystem components. A Roman numeral hierarchical scheme has been adopted for different levels for ecological regions." Level I is the coursest division and level IV is the finest. The GIF file shows the SRLCC footprint...

The footprint of the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative, showing level IV ecoregions, as defined by James Omernik (see metadata for citations). The Excel table shows each ecoregion's area (in square meters and acres) and its percent of the total area.
