In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey calculated four land cover basin characteristics rasters from the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2019 as part of updating the South Carolina StreamStats application. These datasets are raster representations of impervious surface, developed, forested, and storage land cover attributes within the South Carolina StreamStats study area, and will be served in the South Carolina StreamStats application (https://www.usgs.gov/streamstats) to describe delineated watersheds. The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analytical tools that are useful for water-resources planning and management, and for engineering...

Estimates of various low-flow statistics were computed at 56 ungaged stream locations throughout New Jersey during the 2022 water year using methods in the published reports, 1) Streamflow characteristics and trends in New Jersey, water years 1897-2003 (Watson and others, 2005) and 2) Implementation of MOVE.1, censored MOVE.1, and piecewise MOVE.1 low-flow regressions with applications at partial-record streamgaging stations in New Jersey (Colarullo and others, 2018). The estimates are computed as needed for use in water resources permitting, assessment, and management by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The data release includes the stream name, location, drainage area, method of estimation,...

In January 2020, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) began work on the Interstate 26 (I 26) highway widening project that involves a bridge crossing over the French Broad River (FBR) near Asheville, North Carolina. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the NCDOT, conducted a streambank light detection and ranging (lidar) survey of the streambanks of the French Broad River in November of 2019, approximately two months before construction began. The survey extended from 300 meters (m) upstream to 700 m downstream from the bridge. Two georeferenced lidar scans were collected; one of the right-descending bank and one of the left-descending bank. Three-dimensional points of the streambank...

Total Nitrogen models are still in development and are not yet available. Anticipated availability is early April 2024. Information on this page will be edited as needed. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the York County Planning Commission and York County Conservation District, has collected discrete stream samples for analysis of suspended-sediment, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus concentrations at six real-time streamflow and water-quality monitoring (turbidity and nitrate) stations located in York County, Pennsylvania. Data were collected from 2019-2023 at these stations for the application of predicting suspended-sediment, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus concentrations using...

Concentrations and loads of total phosphorus, dissolved phosphorus, and suspended solids were estimated for three sites on the Lower Fox River for October 1988 through September 2021. The sites are the Fox River at Neenah-Menasha (040844105), Fox River at DePere (04085059), and Fox River at the Mouth (040851385). Data analysis was conducted with the Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) method. Daily loads were estimated using the WRTDS method with Kalman filtering. To determine changes in loads over this period, the annual load results were flow-normalized to standardize for the varying flow dynamics that occurred among years. The model archive contains the R code for running the WRTDS model,...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Mission Area (WMA) is working to address a need to understand where the Nation is experiencing water shortages or surpluses relative to the demand for water need by delivering routine assessments of water supply and demand and an understanding of the natural and human factors affecting the balance between supply and demand. A key part of the Integrated Water Availability Assessments (IWAAs) Trends and Drivers project is identifying long-term national trends in water availability, including groundwater and surface water quantity, quality, and use. This data release contains Mann-Kendall monotonic trend analyses for 55 observed annual (calendar, water, and climate...

Note: this data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a ZLS Burris relative-gravity meter. The effect of solid Earth tides and ocean loading were removed from the data. Instrument drift was removed by evaluating gravity change during repeated measurements at one or more base stations. Absolute-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste, Inc. A-10 absolute-gravity meter. Vertical gradients between the different measuring heights of the absolute- and relative-gravity meters were measured using a relative-gravity meter and fully-adjustable tripod, and used to correlate the measurements between the two instruments. Relative-gravity...
This USGS Data Release represents time series water quality data collected at select spring sites in the Grand Canyon region of northern Arizona. This dataset comprises time series water quality results from select spring sites in the Grand Canyon region that were sampled using a MiniSipper auto sampler. These spring sites include Salt Spring (USGS Site ID: 360439112094101) and Willow 1 Spring (Site ID: 363357112440801). The MiniSipper auto sampler collects up to 250 five-mL, 0.45 um filtered and acidified water samples. Samples are stored in a 500' teflon tubing sample coil and adjacent water samples are separated by air bubbles (Chapin and Todd, 2012). Water samples are analyzed for a suite of elements using...

The dataset is composed of two tables containing data collected during screening surveys for invasive Round Goby (Neogobius melanostomus) on the Eastern Erie Canal in New York. Environmental DNA using water samples and traditional fish surveys using benthic trawling, seining, and trapping were conducted twice annually at 12 sites on the Eastern Erie Canal between Oneida Lake and the Hudson River from 2016-2019. Study sites were selected to be approximately equidistant apart (~ 20 km) while also taking advantage of suitable access points. Within a study site, the exact areas that were sampled were often staggered by 500 m or occasionally more in order to find appropriate habitat for each gear type (i.e., wadable...

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) have recently been observed in rivers, including the Illinois River in the Midwest United States. The Illinois River Basin has a history of eutrophication issues, primarily caused by the excessive loading of nitrogen and phosphorus from urban and agricultural sources. Recent events have seen the emergence of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms in the area. This data release provides early warning indicator (EWI) metrics derived from a continuous chlorophyll concentration dataset obtained from seven water quality monitoring sites along the Illinois River. These metrics include the first-order autoregressive process (Ar1) and the standard deviation (SD) of chlorophyll, which serve as leading...
