The data release for Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area and the Magruder Corridor and Special Mining Management Zone Additions to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area, and adjacent areas Idaho and Montana, contains a subset of previously unpublished geochemical data from the 1979-1984 projects. In the case of Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area study (Lund and Esparza, 1990), the purpose of the project was to determine petrologic and geochemical characteristics and to investigate effects of historic mine drainage in the study area. Data for the Magruder Corridor Addition reflect rock geochemistry to document petrologic and geochemical characteristics (Mosier and others, 1981; Lund and others, 1992). Included in...

The Hudson Canyon begins on the outer continental shelf off the east coast of the United States at about 100-meters (m) water depth and extends offshore southeastward across the continental slope and rise. A multibeam survey was carried out in 2002 to map the bathymetry and backscatter intensity of the sea floor of the Hudson Canyon and adjacent slope and rise. The survey covered an area approximately 205 kilometers (km) in the offshore direction, extending from about 500 m to about 4,000 m water depth, and about 110 km in the alongshore direction, centered on the Hudson Canyon. The sea floor was mapped using a SeaBeam Instruments 2112 multibeam echosounder aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration...

Temperate lakes may contain both coolwater fish species such as walleye (Sander vitreus) and warmwater species such as largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). Recent declines in walleye and increases in largemouth bass populations have raised questions regarding the future trajectories and appropriate management actions for these important species. We developed a thermodynamic model of water temperatures driven by downscaled climate data and lake specific characteristics to estimate daily water temperature profiles for 2148 lakes in Wisconsin, USA under contemporary (1989-2014) and future (2040-2064 and 2065-2089) conditions. We correlated contemporary walleye recruitment success and largemouth bass relative abundance...

The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of these provinces is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. The Powder River Basin Province is located in northeast Wyoming and southeast Montana with some assessment units extending beyond the existing province boundary into small areas of southwest South Dakota and northwest Nebraska. The province encompasses all or parts of Big Horn, Campbell, Carter, Converse, Crook, Custer, Fall River,...

This shapefile includes arcs and polygons that describe U.S. Geological Survey defined 33 geologic provinces of the Circum-Arctic (north of the Arctic Circle). Each province has a set of geologic characteristics distinguishing it from surrounding provinces. These characteristics may include the dominant lithologies, the age of the strata, and the structural style. Some provinces include multiple genetically-related basins. Resource-assessments are conducted by research scientists of the U.S Geological Survey's World Petroleum Resource Project by means of a combination of Total Petroleum System analysis based on available geologic information, and statistical analysis of production and exploration information. Total...

The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic...

The limits of Gas Hydrate (GH) stability zone contour lines (GH stability thickness zero) shown here is a geographic boundary defined and mapped on basis of U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-35 Gas Hydrate assessment contours that were created in Support of the 1995 National Assessment of United States Oil and Gas Resources. The 1995 CD-ROM released digital map data, figures, and text used in the "1995 National Assessment of United States Oil and Gas Resources -- Results, Methodology, and Supporting Data," U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data DDS-30 (Gautier and others, 1995). The 1995 Assessment Gas Hydrate thickness boundaries were revised and updated according to recent methane hydrate stability zone...

Cell maps for each oil and gas assessment unit were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, dry, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown. The well information was initially retrieved from the IHS Energy Group, PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data on CD-ROM, which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the...

This dataset contains the shapefile of the bathymetric contours generated from field data collected in the Lago Caonillas between September and November 2012 by U.S. Geological Survey. The 2012 bathymetric survey was conducted using a bathymetric/land survey system, consisting of a global positioning system (GPS) coupled to a digital depth sounder. A total of 155 survey navigation lines were established at 50 meter (m) intervals, beginning at the dam and continuing upstream along the river branches of the reservoir. Geographic position (accuracy of less than 2 m) and water depths (accuracy of 2 centimeters [cm] ±1 percent of the measured depth) were acquired simultaneously using the GPS interfaced to the depth sounder....

Water samples were collected by the USGS National Water Quality Program (NWQP) Southeastern Stream Quality Assessment (SESQA) from 76 perennial, wadeable (less than 10 m width and 1 m depth at base-flow) headwater stream sites in watersheds with varying degrees of urban land use in four states. Dataset includes sample site locations and information, water sample nutrient concentrations and statistics analyses, and corresponding watershed land-use-land-cover data and data dictionary.

This U.S. Geological Survey data release provides surface-water quality, streamflow, and groundwater-elevation data collected within the Central Pine Barrens (CPB) Region of Suffolk County, New York. The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven as part of a five-year comprehensive water-resources monitoring program. Water quality and quality-assurance data from seven sites on two rivers (Carmans River- 5 sites and Peconic River - 2 sites) in the CPB are included. Carmans River sites were sampled four times throughout the year (fall, winter, spring, and summer) and Peconic River sites were sampled twice throughout the year (fall and spring). Water-quality...
