This dataset is a collection of unpublished geologic field maps and transfer maps that represent over 100 years of field data collected by Virginia geological survey staff. These field records include hand-drawn notes, strike and dip, contacts, economic, structure and paleo information. Some maps have been scanned and are available digitally. Most maps are located in our Charlottesville, Va offices in paper format. All are unique, one-of-a-kind documents.

Cores represent over 2,000 individual core sites drilled across the State of Wisconsin; stored in over 56,000 (mainly cardboard) boxes; representing approximately 650,000 linear feet of the subsurface. The Flambeau Core subcollection is approximately 3 percent of the collection of rock cores from Wisconsin. Documentation for the Wisconsin core collection is routinely updated, as information becomes available.

This collection includes field notes, interpretive geologic field maps, field station location maps, and other project materials, many of which are unpublished and archived by the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys. These materials have not been reviewed for accuracy, consistency, or completeness. The collection may contain data and documents pertaining to all related fields of geology, including oil and gas, geologic engineering, minerals industry, scientific data, and agency archives.

This collection contains micropaleontologic age determinations on rock cuttings from 285 wells throughout New Mexico. There are 855 pages of information. This material has been donated or obtained as a result of survey research projects. Most data are fusulinid determinations on rocks of Upper Paleozoic age but there are some palynologic age determinations of other stratl age ranges as well. Located in the Subsurface Library.

The Historic Images Collection includes approximately 15,500 photographs, slides, lantern slides and digital media in this collection were taken during the course of geologic, mineral resource, and geologic hazard investigations carried out by Virginia Energy staff beginning in the first half of the 20th century. The collection includes images of important rock outcrops that demonstrate key features of stratigraphic units, fossils indicative of the age of rock formations, outcrop-scale geologic structures such as faults and folds, economically significant minerals and mine sites, and geologic hazards such as landslides and sinkholes. Images are available online in JPG format. High resolution imagery is available...

The Field Notes collection mainly consists of hand-written descriptions of outcrops, measured sections, gravel pits, and other geologic sites in Iowa. The majority of these notes were contained in paper files, organized by county. Pertinent information from the files was entered in the GeoSam database and associated documents were scanned and uploaded for public view.

This collection is comprised of legacy DGGS geologic maps that have been converted to the single-map USGS Geologic Map Schema (GeMS; formerly known as NCGMP09). Initial conversions will be conducted on maps in areas with critical mineral potential, benefiting DGGS and USGS critical mineral studies in Alaska. Future additions to this collection will include both converted geologic maps, and new geologic maps created using the GeMS schema.
