Collection contains original copies of geophysical well logs and records from 14210 wells drilled for uranium exploration and evaluation in New Mexico. Most of these are one-of-a-kind and not available elswhere. The collection has been 90% catalogged. A listing is available upon request.

The national dataset was clipped to the WLCI envelope by USGS staff. No other processing was performed on the dataset. This map layer is commonly called Bailey's ecoregions and shows ecosystems of regional extent in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Four levels of detail are included to show a hierarchy of ecosystems. The largest ecosystems are domains, which are groups of related climates and which are differentiated based on precipitation and temperature. Divisions represent the climates within domains and are differentiated based on precipitation levels and patterns as well as temperature. Divisions are subdivided into provinces, which are differentiated based on vegetation or other...

The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic...

This project would increase diversity of forbs and invertebrates in riparian and transitional riparian/upland areas through mowing and seeding of native forb species. A tractor powered mower with a seeder would be used to create an enhanced vegetative mosaic within riparian or transitional riparian areas lacking in vegetative species and structural diversity. A contractor would provide a tractor or seeder for distribution of native seed. This project would focus on improving habitat for a diversity of species, particularly sage grouse and other BLM sensitive avian species such as the Brewer's sparrow and sage thrasher, which rely on riparian habitats for critical brood rearing requirements in the Sand Hills ACEC...

This project will provide for deer crossing the Baggs highway (789) to reduce vehicle collisions. Construction of 3-4 miles of deer proof fence to funnel a portion of a migrating deer herd to existing culvert under HWY 789 to reduce deer vehicle collissions. Installation of 6 cattleguards in current access points to prevent deer access through fences at these points. Further, the project would cover several years and work toward providing safe wildlife passage. Industry and WDOT are being approached to partner with the WGFD on this project. Providing deer crossings of HWY 789 will reduce the incidences of vehicle and deer collisions, reducing deer mortality and damage to vehicles. The project would be done in a...

This publication provides the most complete information available on the status of rare vertebrate species and vascular plant species in Wyoming. It updates and replaces previous lists (Fertig and Beauvais 1999, Fertig and Heidel 2002), and documents 473 plants and 125 vertebrates of conservation and management concern in Wyoming. For each species, a summary of factors used in weighing species’ status including distribution, abundance, trends, and intrinsic vulnerability, is also provided. Interest in rare species has increased substantially over the past 40 years, and currently there is broad support for the conservation of rare plants and animals in North America. Natural resource managers, policy makers, and...

Prescribed burns to restore aspen habitat on one of the most important elk calving areas for Afton herd and important for aspen-dependent species, transition and winter range for elk, mule deer, and moose east of Alpine, transition and winter range for mule deer and elk of crucial winter range just east of Smoot, and sagebrush, aspen, meadow, and willow habitat on transition range for mule deer and elk 30 miles up the Greys River. In addition, determine 1) locations and distribution of aspen stands on the district that are in need of treatment and 2) prioritize stands relative to level of risk, this information to be used in formulating an aspen treatment schedule. (This assessment would be consistent with methodology...

The oil and gas well cuttings collection consists of splits of cuttings from oil and gas wells. Most of the samples consist of small splits in small envelopes

As the principal agency charged with conducting WLCI science, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) provides multidisciplinary scientific- and technical-assistance support to WLCI partners and works to advance the overall scientific understanding of ecosystems in Southwest Wyoming. Fulfilling these roles entails evaluating the effectiveness of habitat treatments implemented by WLCI partners and collaborators, assessing the cumulative effects of energy development and other land-use changes on wildlife and habitat in the WLCI area, coordinating work activities with the WLCI community, and demonstrating how to integrate research findings into on-the-ground management actions. Work is guided by a Science Strategy based...

Monthly and annual average solar resource potential for 48 Contiguous United States. This data provides monthly average and annual average daily total solar resource averaged over surface cells of 0.1 degrees in both latitude and longitude, or about 10 km in size. This data was developed using the State University of New York/Albany satellite radiation model. This model was developed by Dr. Richard Perez and collaborators at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and other universities for the U.S. Department of Energy. Specific information about this model can be found in Perez, et al. (2002). This model uses hourly radiance images from geostationary weather satellites, daily snow cover data, and monthly averages...

The Chiles cluster is named for Chiles Volcano in northern Ecuador. The cluster is composed mainly of earthquakes associated with a seismic crisis at the volcano in 2014, including a 6.0 mb event on October 20, 2014. About half the events are recorded at teleseismic distances. The station coverage is reasonably good and all events have depth control. Number of events: 31 Calibration type: direct calibration using data to 1.0 degrees; hypocentroid calibration level = 1.8 km Epicentral calibration range: 2 - 4 km Date range: 19970219 - 20150124 Latitude range: 0.439 - 1.250 Longitude range:...

Hydrologic processes during extreme rainfall events are poorly characterized because of the rarity of measurements. Improved understanding of hydrologic controls on natural hazards is needed because of the potential for substantial risk during extreme precipitation events. We present field measurements of the degree of soil saturation and estimates of available soil-water storage during the September 2013 Colorado extreme rainfall event at burned (wildfire in 2010) and unburned hillslopes with north- and south-facing slope aspects. Soil saturation was more strongly correlated with slope aspect than with recent fire history; south-facing hillslopes became fully saturated while north-facing hillslopes did not. Our...

This shapefile contains landscape factors representing human disturbances summarized to local and network catchments of river reaches for the state of South Dakota. This dataset is the result of clipping the feature class 'NFHAP 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for the Conterminous United States linked to NHDPLUSV1.gdb' to the state boundary of South Dakota. Landscape factors include land uses, population density, roads, dams, mines, and point-source pollution sites. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to catchments were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled; (3) representative of...
