Censored and uncensored generalized additive models (GAMs) are developed from 955 U.S. Geological Survey streamflow-gaging stations (streamgages) to predict decadal statistics of streamflow. The streamgages are located on streams draining to the Gulf of Mexico. Decadal statistics include no-flow fractions and selected L-moments of nonzero streamflow for six decades (1950s—2000s). These statistics represent metrics of decadal flow-duration curves (dFDCs) derived from about 10 million daily mean streamflows. The L-moments include the mean, coefficient of L-variation, and the third through fifth L-moment ratios. This data release includes GIS shapefiles and metadata for location of the study area and phytoplankton taxonomy counts determined by Dr. Russel Rhodes, Faculty Emeritus, Department of Biology, Missouri State University, in three north Louisiana reservoirs: Cross Lake, Bayou D'Arbonne Lake, and Poverty Point Reservoir, June 2009-February 2011. These data and GIS coverages complement and support the findings in the companion report by Tollett and others (in review).

This data release includes data-processing scripts, data products, and associated metadata for a study to recalibrate a hydrologic model for Sinking Pond, a 35-hectare seasonally flooded karst depression wetland located at Arnold Engineering Development Complex near Manchester, Tennessee. A hydrologic model for Sinking Pond was originally published by Wolfe and others (2004). That original model used daily climatic inputs from weather stations and was calibrated and validated using daily stage observations from Sinking Pond. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, conducted an investigation of acid-rock drainage from road cuts in Tennessee during 2014-2015. The Devonian Chattanooga Shale contains disseminated pyrite and is a primary producer of acid-rock drainage (ARD) in Tennessee. Specifically, these data represent both 12-month specific average and annual average daily total solar resource averaged over surface cells of 0.1 degrees in both latitude and longitude. Daily streamflow discharge data from 139 streamgages located on tributaries and streams flowing to the Gulf of Mexico were used to calculate mean monthly, mean seasonal, and decile values. Streamgages used to calculate trends required a minimum of 65 years of continuous daily streamflow data. These values were used to analyze trends in streamflow using the Mann-Kendall trend test in the R package entitled “Trends” and a new methodology created by Robert M. The elevation contours in this dataset have a 2-foot (ft) interval and were derived from a digital elevation model (DEM) of beach topography and nearshore bathymetry of Lake Superior at Minnesota Point, Duluth, Minnesota. The DEM has a 10-meter (32.8084 ft) cell size and was created from LiDAR data representing beach topography and sonar data representing bathymetry to a distance of approximately 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) offshore. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) works closely with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) to provide information to be used by the MDOT for design of highway-drainage structures. MDOT spends millions of dollars annually for highway construction. Streamflow records, hydrologic analyses of basins, and hydraulic analyses of flooding potential at proposed highway crossings help the MDOT to make more informed decisions on the use of highway construction funding. The Bonnet Carré Spillway (BCS), located about 28 miles northwest of New Orleans, Louisiana, was constructed in the early 1930s as part of an integrated flood-control system for the lower Mississippi River Plain. The BCS is designed to divert water from the Mississippi River (MSR) into Lake Pontchartrain (LP), which then flows into Lake Borgne and the Mississippi Sound (MS Sound), thus relieving pressure on levees downstream. Anthropogenic hydrologic alteration threatens the health of riverine ecosystems. This study assesses hydrologic alteration in the Pearl and Pascagoula river basins using modeled daily streamflow. Machine learning was used to identify locations that have undergone statistically significant streamflow alteration, quantify the volume of the alteration, and predict alteration using cubist models. Statistically significant alteration was determined by hypothesis testing. The pre- and post-alteration flow duration curves were used to calculate the net change across 60 years.
