This shapefile includes arcs and polygons that describe U.S. Geological Survey defined geologic provinces of the World. Each province has a set of geologic characteristics distinguishing it from surrounding provinces. These characteristics may include the dominant lithologies, the age of the strata, and the structural style. Some provinces include multiple genetically-related basins. Offshore province boundaries are generally defined by the 2000 meter bathymetric contour, but where appropriate are defined by the 4000 meter bathymetric contour. In some cases province boundaries are delineated by political boundaries, as in the case of The United States and Canada, because United States petroleum resources were assessed...

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of the net coal tickness of the deadman coal zone in the northern part (Jim Bridger area) of the Point of Rocks-Black Butte coalfield in the Greater Green River Basin, Wyoming. This shapefile is a part of the National Coal Resource Assessment of the Northern Rocky Mountain and Great Plains Fort Union Coal Resources Assessment Area. This shapefile can be shown in relation to other relevant themes of this area.

The geology data set for this map includes arcs, polygons, and labels that outline and describe the general geologic age and type of bedrock of Iran. The geologic provinces data set includes arcs, polygons, and labels of geologic and petroleum provinces interpreted and designated by R.M. Pollastro from a number of literature and map resources to assist in the assessment of oil and gas resources for the USGS World Energy Project. The oil and gas field centerpoints data set is a point coverage that marks the approximate centerpoints of oil and gas fields in Iran. Political boundaries are provided to show the general location of country and/or other reference 'political' boundaries.
This dataset is a polygon coverage of counties limited to the extent of the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed resource areas and attributed with remaining resource values (millions of short tons) in aggregated reporting categories as described in USGS Circular 891. The file has been generalized from detailed geologic coverages found elsewhere in Professional Paper 1625-C.

Cell maps for each oil and gas assessment unit were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, dry, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown. The well information was initially retrieved from the IHS Energy Group, PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data on CD-ROM, which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the...
These ArcView shapefiles contain representations of the net coal thickness in the Hanna 77, 78, 79 and 81 coal zones, Hanna coalfield, Hanna Basin, Wyoming. These datasets were created specifically for the National Coal Resource Assessment in the Northern Rocky Mountains and Great Plains Region.

The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of province is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. This dataset is a compilation of data that has been studied and published separately, and in some cases adjacent provinces do not share a common boundary. As a consequence, there are numerous gaps and overlaps in this layer.

These data tables describe the inputs and parameters for the 3D petroleum systems model. This section of data is included for users wishing to rebuild the 3D basin model from scratch, either in PetroMod or another basin modeling software package. All inputs and settings for model construction are included. Settings summaries are provided in a data bundle of comma-separated value (CSV) tables. Also included is the “Williston_Basin_model_inputs_glossary.csv” data table that provides a brief description of all the columns/value fields in the data bundle. This is a child item of a larger data release titled "Data release for the 3D petroleum systems model of the Williston Basin, USA".
Formation tops were picked in 16,200 wells from the Williston Basin of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. Each formation top was picked using borehole geophysical log data. Many wells in the Williston Basin do not penetrate the entire stratigraphic section and in many other cases the shallow intervals were not logged. In total, there are 141,096 individual picks composing 29 sets of formation tops. Each top set represents a recognizable stratigraphic marker that can be correlated from well to well. The formation tops serve as foundational observations for building the stratigraphic and structural framework of the 3D petroleum systems model. How each formation top assigns to age, lithostratigraphic unit, and...
This child item contains one structural grid generated on the top of the Almond Formation (base Lewis Shale) and one grid on the top of the Fox Hills Sandstone. The top of the Lewis Shale and base of the Fox Hills Sandstone interfinger on a regional scale, so the top of the Fox Hills Sandstone was chosen as a structural horizon for consistency. The grids were generated by picking tops in borehole geophysical logs and interpolating between them in the Southwestern Wyoming Province in Wyoming and Colorado. The Lewis Shale in the eastern part of the province is bounded to the north and south by fault zones, to the east by uplift, and to the west by the Lewis stratigraphic pinch-out. The Lewis Shale has been uplifted...
