This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units, assessment input data and resulting fact sheet data tables for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the Mesozoic petroleum systems of the Central European Basin System. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown herein as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations...
This data release provides the georeferenced boundaries that delimit each spatial unit of the Great Lakes Regional Aquatic Gap Analysis Project (GLGap) Coastal Hydrospatial Framework at each spatial scale from the local 90m cell to the entire Laurentian Great Lakes system and from the shoreline to the deepest offshore waters. The U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service collaborated to design a universal framework of spatial areas that encompass all space of the Laurentian Great Lakes proper. Agglomeration of the finest units (90m cells) form coarser, broader scale units. Finer units are nested within the coarser units at six spatial scales, labeled as Local Cells, Aquatic Habitat Areas, Coastal...
These data include 217 median groundwater elevations computed from compiled measurements made in the year 2010 within the transboundary Mesilla/Conejos-Médanos Basin, United States and Mexico, along with their corresponding interpolated groundwater elevations and standard errors from the application of kriging. Of the 217 median groundwater elevation locations, 109 were in the United States and 108 were in Mexico. Considered measurements were limited to wells thought to be completed in the basin-fill/Santa Fe Group aquifer based on well records. This dataset includes a comma-separated values file (Control_points.csv) that provides the median groundwater elevations that were kriged to yield rasters of estimated groundwater...

This database is the result of an extensive literature search aimed at identifying documents relevant to the emerging field of dam removal science. In total the database contains 296 citations that contain empirical monitoring information associated with 207 different dam removals across the United States and abroad. Data includes publications through 2020 and supplemented with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Inventory of Dams database, U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System and aerial photos to estimate locations when coordinates were not provided. Publications were located using the Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Clearinghouse for Dam Removal Information.

Lake-bottom sediment and associated quality-control samples were collected in August 2020 from one coring location (U.S. Geological Survey station 413756070321301, ASHUMET POND, MASHPEE MI-ASHPD-0011) in Ashumet Pond downgradient from a former fire-training area on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The core was collected to determine if per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were present in the bottom sediments of a lake known to have elevated concentrations of PFAS in surface water and groundwater (Tokranov and others, 2021), and whether the sediments could act as a continuous source of PFAS to the lake. Processing the sediment core entailed collection of discrete samples at intervals ranging from 1-5 centimeters (cm)...

Benthic macroinvertebrate samples to evaluate before- and after-culvert construction phases were collected at seven study sites. Samples were collected in two reaches at each site, one upstream and one downstream of the culvert installation. Biological data for all seven sites (14 sample reaches) are included in this data release. In the summer of 2011, samples were collected from upstream and downstream reaches at six stream sites. Samples from Oakmulgee Creek, Northington Branch, Lye Branch, Mill Creek, and Kanetuche Creek represented conditions before culvert construction. The samples from the Tributary to Cahaba River represented conditions during construction since the culvert was already constructed and active...

This data set contains U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgage matching results in tabular format for water-quality sites retrieved from the Water Quality Portal for the Delaware River Basin. The table contains a list of water-quality sites joined to USGS streamgages where the water-quality site and USGS streamgage are located on the same stream, as represented by the National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus) "LevelPathID" attribute. The file represents a one-to-many relationship: each water-quality site, as represented by the unique identifier, "MonitoringLocationIdentifier", is joined to anywhere from zero streamgages (not on same stream as any gage; the gage info columns are NA) to one or more streamgages...

This data set, compiled by USGS Lake Erie Biological Station, provides near-bottom measurements of temperature and dissolved oxygen for the Central Basin of Lake Erie. Data were recorded by self-contained environmental data loggers (PME, Inc., MiniDOT data loggers). The data loggers were deployed during the stratified period (i.e., beginning of June 2020 through late October 2020) to better understand how hypoxia develops and influences fish habitat quality. The data loggers were deployed on acoustic telemetry receivers in a network designed to record tagged fish movements (Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System, GLATOS). Additional years of data collection are planned, and data release will be updated...

Legacy mine waste from the Clark Fork River in Western Montana has contributed 100 million tons of tailings into the watershed between 1880 and 1982 (E.D. Andrews, Longitudinal dispersion of metals in the Clark Fork River, Montana, Lewis Publishers, 1987). Tailings deposited along the floodplain, streambanks and river channel continue to contribute metal contaminated material into the river in the form of metal-enriched particulate matter or seston, comprising a mixture of organic and inorganic materials (J.N. Moore and S.N. Luoma, Hazardous wastes from large-scale metal extraction: A case study. Environmental Science and Technology, v.24:1278-1285, 1990). Metal enriched seston poses a dietary exposure risk to filter-feeding...

The Long Valley Caldera in eastern California formed about 760,000 years ago following the eruption of ~600 km3 of high-silica rhyolite. The Long Valley volcanic-hydrothermal system contains sufficient heat to support the Casa Diablo binary geothermal power plant sited on the margin of the resurgent dome. Present day volcanic activity is evidenced by periods of seismicity and deformation and the presence of magmatic volatiles in thermal fluids. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) uses a variety of techniques to monitor the volcanic system that underlies the Long Valley Caldera. Monitoring data include measurements of seismicity and deformation and chemical analyses of thermal waters and gases that are emitted at...

Southwest (SW) Region. The U.S. Geological Survey Dakota Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is analyzing annual peak-flow data to determine if trends are present and provide attribution of trends where possible. This dataset contains comma separated value (csv) files to support the attribution of changes in peak streamflow in the southwestern U.S. to changes in precipitation, temperature, and timing of peak runoff. The peak streamflow is the maximum instantaneous flow during a water year from October 1st to September 30th of the next year. The dataset contains results for only the streamgages that were identified to have significant trends and change points for periods...

This dataset consists of several measures of landscape characteristics, each of which is summarized from raster data within spatial polygons. These spatial polygons represent the land area upstream of sampled stream reaches. These stream reaches were sampled by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for the Maryland Biological Stream Survey program during survey rounds one, two, and four. Landscape characteristics summarized here are either represented by continuous or discrete raster layers which are summarized as the average value of a given characteristic (continuous data) or the area occupied by each class (discrete data). The continuous datasets summarized included percentage of area occupied by tree...
