Nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended-sediment loads, and changes in loads, in major rivers across the Chesapeake Bay watershed have been calculated using monitoring data from the Chesapeake Bay Nontidal Network (NTN) stations stations for the period 1985 through 2020. Nutrient and suspended-sediment loads and changes in loads were determined by applying a weighted regression approach called WRTDS (Weighted Regression on Time, Discharge, and Season). The load results represent the total mass of nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediment that was exported from each of the NTN watersheds and were estimated using the WRTDS method with Kalman filtering. To determine the trend in loads, the annual load results are flow...

The USGS Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center (WY–MT WSC) recently completed a report documenting methods for peak-flow frequency analysis following implementation of the Bulletin 17C guidelines. The methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 50-, 42.9-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) for selected streamgages operated by the WY–MT WSC. In association with the report, this data release presents peak-flow frequency analyses for 99 selected streamgages that serve as examples showing various aspects of the WY-MT WSC frequency-analysis methods. The results are presented in three child items: a child item containing the results excel spreadsheet,...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, updated basin-characteristic data for Oklahoma streams with drainage areas of less than 2,510 square miles. Basin characteristics were updated or created for 248 streamgages. The previously published Oklahoma generalized skew map, a necessary element in the development of the peak-streamflow frequencies was updated. Compared to a previous dataset described in (Lewis, 2010), this dataset incorporates an additional 9 years of annual peak-streamflow data, including 2 years when major peak-streamflows were recorded (2015 and 2017). The additional years of data collection since the publication...

In 2009, the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho released and implemented the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Master Plan. This plan aimed to restore, enhance, and maintain the Kootenai River habitat and landscape to support and sustain habitat conditions for aquatic species and animal populations. In support of these restoration efforts, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetric surveys as a baseline bathymetric monitoring survey on the Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Three channel patterns or reaches exist in the study area—braided, meander, and a transitional zone connecting the braided and meander reaches. Bathymetric...

This imagery dataset consists of 3-meter resolution, lidar-derived imagery of the Hagerstown 30 x 60 minute quadrangle in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and part of West Virginia. The source data used to construct this imagery consists of 1-meter resolution lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). The lidar source data were compiled from different acquisitions published between 2016 and 2023. The data were processed using geographic information systems (GIS) software. The data is projected in WGS 1984 Web Mercator. This representation illustrates the terrain as a hillshade with contrast adjusted to highlight local relief according to a topographic position index (TPI) calculation. Riparian ecosystems are valuable to the ecological and human communities that depend on them. Over the past century, they have been subject to shifting management practices to maximize human use and ecosystem services, creating a complex relationship between water policy, management, and the natural ecosystem. This has necessitated research on the spatial and temporal dynamics of riparian vegetation change. The San Acacia Reach of the Middle Rio Grande has experienced multiple management and river flow fluctuations, resulting in threats to its riparian and aquatic ecosystems. This research uses remote sensing data, GIS, a review of management decisions, and an assessment of climate to both quantify how riparian...
