The compilation of resource assessments is standard for regions with known energy or mineral wealth across the country. Resource assessments provide statistical insight into the spatial occurrence and probable accumulation. At the same time, environmental or ecological assessments provide insight into the levels and patterns of natural resources associated with ecosystems in a region. The marriage of resource assessments with social and environmental assessments is a crucial step toward understanding the trade-offs in extracting a given resource. The ability to integrate these seemingly disparate assessments and to quantify the potential trade-offs or impacts of resource development are of broad interest (Bernknopf...
Petroleum production data are usually stored in a format that makes it easy to determine the year and month production started, if there are any breaks, and when production ends. However, in some cases, you may want to compare production runs where the start of production for all wells starts at month one regardless of the year the wells started producing. This report describes the JAVA program the U.S. Geological Survey developed to examine water-to-oil and water-to-gas ratios in the form of month one, month two, and so on with the objective of estimating quantities of water and proppant used in low-permeability petroleum production. The text covers the data used by the program, the challenges with production data,...

The data release encapsulates geospatial data in support of the regional scale study, Coal Geology and Assessment of Coal Resources and Reserves in the Little Snake River coal field and Red Desert assessment area, Greater Green River Basin, Wyoming. The assessment area covers about 2,300 square miles of the Eastern portion of the 15,400 square mile Greater Green River Basin in Southwestern Wyoming. This release includes geospatial data for the study area boundary, depth to coal, thickness of coal, outcrops and reliability. These data were compiled from numerous sources, the primary one being a database of point data that resides in a separate data release.

National Assessment of Oil and Gas,
The hydrogen index (HI) is a parameter obtained from Rock-Eval data which reflects general hydrocarbon generation and maturation trends in petroleum systems. In the Mississippian Barnett Shale, the hydrogen index was used to map general boundaries between regions of oil and gas generation within the extents of the formation. Hydrogen index values were obtained via Rock-Eval analyses of Barnett Shale core samples. In this system, HI values greater than 100 represent primarily oil generation and HI values less than 100 represent primarily gas generation. Secondary gas generation is indicated by HI values less than 50. In addition, the 100 HI line was utilized to establish part of the assessment unit (AU) boundaries...
