The comma-delimited fields in this dataset provide values for the remotely sensed variables analyzed for landscape blocks described in the paper, "Multi-year data from satellite- and ground-based sensors show details and scale matter in assessing climate’s effects on wetland surface water, amphibians, and landscape conditions," by Sadinski et al. (submitted). The field labeled “BlockSite” links the records in this file with a set of boundaries in a shapefile called “Study_Block_Boundaries.shp” The records represent weekly measurements of normalized difference vegetation index (BlockNDVI) values and total evapotranspiration (BlockETmm), as well as the annual snow-off date (BlockDOYsnowfree) for the study blocks from...

We compiled time series of egg mass counts (an index of adult female abundance) from Rana boylii populations in 36 focal streams and fit a Multiple Population Viability Analysis (MPVA) model to quantify how streamflow metrics, stream temperature, and surrounding land cover affect population growth. In addition, data on streamflow, stream temperature, and surrounding land cover for each stream were compiled from existing sources. These data support the following publication: Rose, J.P., Kupferberg, S.J., Peek, R.A., Ashton, D., Bettaso, J.B., Bobzien, S., Bourque, R.M., Breedveld, K.G., Catenazzi, A., Drennan, J.E., Gonsolin, E., Grefsrud, M., Herman, A.E., House, M.R., Kluber, M.R., Lind, A.J., Marlow, K.R., Striegle,...

The Louisiana State Legislature created Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Lake Chapeau Sediment Input and Hydrologic Restoration, Point Au Fer Island (TE-26) project for 2016. This data is used as a basemap land/water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious...

A green-tree reservoir (GTR) is a stand of bottomland hardwoods that is intentionally flooded in the fall and winter to support migrating waterfowl. Bottomland hardwood forest plots, installed 1985-1987 in the GTR on Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge (FNWR), are measured every 5-6 years to monitor tree survival, growth, and mortality. An accompanying datafile contains the names, locations, and elevations of the forest plots. These parameters are defined in the Entity and Attributes section of this metadata file. Historical Perspective: Permanent forest plots were established between 1985 and 1987 in forest stands within the GTR on FNWR by a team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Waterways Experiment Station...

Since its inception, the Everglades Depth Estimation Network (EDEN) has used the High Accuracy Elevation Dataset (HAED) digital elevation model (DEM) to provide scientists and managers with continuous water depth surfaces, derived from interpolated water stage, on a 400 X 400 meter grid. A new, high resolution LiDAR-based DEM is available through a collaboration between Everglades National Park (ENP) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program (3DEP). This new DEM covers the southern part of the EDEN extent, including a large area of ENP and a portion of southeast Big Cypress National Preserve. It is provided at a resolution of 0.5 meters but contains data voids in surface water areas where the LiDAR...

Common loons (Gavia immer) staging on the Great Lakes during fall migration are at risk to episodic outbreaks of type E botulism. Information on distribution, foraging patterns, and exposure routes of loons are needed for understanding the physical and ecological factors that contribute to avian botulism outbreaks. Aerial surveys were conducted to document the spatiotemporal distribution of common loons on Lake Michigan during falls 2011–2013. In addition, satellite telemetry and archival geolocator tags were used to determine the distribution and foraging patterns of individual common loons while using Lake Michigan during fall migration. Common loon distribution observed during aerial surveys and movements of...

This data release contains historical SnowModel (Liston and Elder, 2006) output for the Crown of the Continent and surrounding areas in Montana, USA; and Alberta and British Columbia, Canada from September 1, 1981 through August 31, 2020. Fifteen daily variables were simulated or derived for this release: (1) snow water equivalent (swed), (2) liquid precipitation (rpre), (3) solid precipitation (spre), (4) albedo (albd), (5) glacial ice melt (glmt), (6) total precipitation (prec), (7) runoff (roff), (8) snow covered area (sca), (9) snow density (sden), (10) snowmelt (smlt), (11) snow depth (snod), (12) snow sublimation (ssub), (13) air temperature (tair), (14) wind speed (wspd), and (15) wind direction (wdir). The...

Members from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Patterns in the Landscape - Analyses of Cause and Effect (PLACE) team are releasing monthly surface water maps for the conterminous United States (U.S.) from 2003 through 2019 as 250-meter resolution geoTIFF files. The maps were produced using the Dynamic Surface Water Extent (DSWE) algorithm applied to daily Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery (DSWEmod) (Soulard et al., 2021) - see associated items. The DSWEmod model classifies the landscape (i.e., each MODIS pixel) into different classes of surface water based on quantified levels of confidence, including, i) high-confidence surface water (class 1), ii) moderate-confidence surface water (class...

Nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended-sediment loads, and changes in loads, in rivers across the Chesapeake Bay watershed have been calculated using monitoring data from the Chesapeake Bay Nontidal Network (NTN) stations for the period 1985 through 2016. Nutrient and suspended-sediment loads and changes in loads were determined by applying a weighted regression approach called WRTDS (Weighted Regression on Time, Discharge, and Season). The load results represent the total mass of nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediment that was exported from each of the NTN watersheds. To determine the trend in loads, the annual load results are flow normalized to integrate out the year-to-year variability in river discharge....

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fort Collins Science Center created a national data set of the footprint area of solar arrays for the Bureau of Land Management’s National Operations Center. We identified potential solar facility locations for the conterminous U.S. using the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) utility-scale facilities data from 2015. The footprint area of each solar array was digitized on-screen using true color aerial imagery from the most recently available National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for each state (NAIP 2013-2015). We used supplementary ESRI basemap imagery accessed via ArcGIS to verify locations of arrays observed in NAIP imagery. Arrays separated by more than 30 meters...
