Managed aquifer recharge is a water-management strategy used to meet water demands during dry periods, or periods of high-water demand, when surface-water supplies are low. One method of managed aquifer recharge uses aquifer systems as subsurface reservoirs or ‘water banks’ to effectively and economically store surface water when surplus is available, and then recover the recharged groundwater to meet water demands during droughts. During these water shortages, increased groundwater pumpage can be used to offset shortfalls in surface-water supplies. In summer in Massachusetts, USA, preferential groundwater discharge zones are often colder than adjacent streambed areas that do not have substantial discharge. Therefore, discharge zones can efficiently be identified and mapped over space using heat as a tracer. This data release contains fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS) data collected along the streambed interface of the main channel and tributaries of the upper Quashnet River, within approximately 1 km of Johns Pond, from June 14 to June 20, 2020. This shapefile dataset contains vector lines representing streams, rivers, and ditches that were used in preparing the underlying data for the South Carolina StreamStats application. River bathymetry surveys were collected in the summer and fall of 2016 along the lower Chetco River, Oregon. These surveys were collected using a real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) and an echo sounder mounted on a motorboat and also behind a kayak at various cross sections and longitudinal profiles along the river. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) conducted a bathymetric survey of the White River immediately downstream of the Beaver Reservoir Dam in Carroll County, Arkansas, on January 22, 2020. Channel-bed elevations were collected to support a USACE hydraulic modeling effort on the White River. Geospatial datasets were developed to estimate the depth to the top of the Dakota Sandstone in feet below land surface datum within the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado. This study was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. An extreme flood in 2016 caused widespread culvert blockages and road failures across northern Wisconsin, including extensive damage along steep tributaries and ravines in the Marengo River watershed. Along with the flooding, there were fluvial erosion hazards (FEH) associated with a large amount of erosion in headwater areas. Of special concern were FEHs associated with gullying, loss of wetland storage, and valley-side mass wasting. Locations of focused (or ‘preferential’) groundwater discharge to surface water are often hydrologically and ecologically important, yet our ability to predict the spatial distribution and water quality of preferential riverbank discharges is limited at the scale of river networks. To advance the understanding of the physical controls on riverbank groundwater discharge processes, discharge zones can be mapped efficiently using handheld and drone-based thermal infrared cameras. This dataset contains the final water-level records (334) that met all threshold criteria and had an absolute residual (ABS_PSEUDO_LEV) of less than 20 feet. The threshold of 20 feet was selected based on water-level changes of the U.S. Geological Survey groundwater site 363551090152801 Qulin, in the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer. On August 25, 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a bathymetry survey of a 550 meter long reach of the Black River near Great Bend, New York. The study reach began approximately 1,000 meters upstream from the State Route 26 bridge in Great Bend, New York. This USGS data release contains the regional potentiometric contours representing the regional potentiometric surface for Clark County, Nevada, 2009-2015. Contours represent the groundwater-level altitude with a 250-foot contour interval and were created from groundwater elevations from 58 wells and surface elevations from 5 springs.

These data represent the network-adjusted results of relative- and absolute-gravity surveys. Relative-gravity surveys were carried out using a Micro-g LaCoste D-series relative-gravity meter. Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ once in 2021 on May 20th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program images dated 2021 and supplemented with Landsat and Sentinel2 imagery collections accessed via the Sentinel Hub, Sentinel Playground (https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/sentinel-playground). On October 13, 2020 a survey of Upper Letts Lake was conducted where both bathymetric and terrestrial lidar data were collected. Additionally, six bed material samples and three core samples were collected to understand the characterization of the grain-size of the lake bed. Survey data were merged with an additional lidar dataset from the USGS 3DEP program to create digital elevation model (DEM). This vector geospatial dataset contains bounding polygons that visualize the domain of archived groundwater flow models published by the Upper Midwest Water Science Center and attributes pertaining to the associated publication (citation, year of publication, authors, report ID, publication URL), model construction details, and a URL for publicly available model archives when available or a directory pathway for internal model archives. The index currently depicts 115 groundwater model domains across Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin from publications dating back to 1985. Separately published groundwater transport models are not included in this dataset.

The data contained within include high-water marks collected at 50 sites throughout the regions of New Jersey affected by significant flooding from Hurricane Ida during September of 2021. Each site contains between one to six associated high-water marks that were documented, photographed, and surveyed to datum. The datum represented by the elevations of the high-water marks is the North American Vertical Datum of 1988. All data (excluding photographs) associated with the high-water marks are contained within the data release associated with these metadata, as well as the USGS Short Term Network Flood Event Viewer (STN-FEV, U.S. Geological Survey (2021a)). This data release contains data from five seismic-reflection surveys in New York’s East River between Governors Island and the Queensboro Bridge. Data are provided in the original proprietary data format, a SEGy data exchange format, and as a shape file of locations and depths to bedrock. From September 2019 to October 2020 a stream sediment budget and sediment fingerprinting integrated study was conducted to quantify upland and stream corridor sources of suspended sediment and sediment-bound phosphorus using the Sediment Source Assessment Tool (SedSAT) methods with a suite of trace elements. Hyperspectral image data from the Niobrara River, a dynamic, sand-bed channel in northern Nebraska, were acquired in November 2012 and again in August 2016 to support research on remote sensing of rivers, particularly retrieval of water depth and tracking of mobile bedforms. These data were collected by the Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) 1500H manufactured by ITRES Research Limited. The data were acquired from fixed wing aircraft and have spatial resolutions (pixel sizes) from 0.5 - 0.6 m.
