This dataset contains data collected within limestone cedar glades at Stones River National Battlefield (STRI) near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This dataset contains measurements of volumetric soil water content at certain quadrat locations (points) within 12 selected cedar glades. All soil water content measurements in this file were performed by thermogravimetric analysis (oven-drying) using the following procedure. First, soil samples were obtained using a brass cylinder of height 5 centimeters (cm) and interior diameter 4.9 cm. The cylinder was partially inserted into the soil, using a hammer if necessary, to a depth of roughly 2 to 3 cm. Soil adjacent to the inserted cylinder was removed and a flat plastic spatula...

This dataset contains data collected within limestone cedar glades at Stones River National Battlefield (STRI) near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This dataset contains measurements of soil pH at certain quadrat locations (points) within 12 selected cedar glades. These measurements were obtained according to the following protocol: (1) for each quadrat location (point), one soil sample was obtained under sterile conditions, using a trowel wiped with methanol and rinsed with distilled water, and was placed into an autoclaved jar with a tight-fitting lid and placed on ice, (2) soil samples were transported to lab facilities on ice and immediately refrigerated, (3) soil samples were transferred to clean aluminum trays and...

Central Asia, site of the historic Silk Road trade network, has long been a conduit for the movement of people, energy, and mineral resources between Europe and Asia. Once part of the former Soviet Union, this region was and continues to be an important producer of base and precious metals, rare metals (RM), including niobium, tantalum, and beryllium, and a past producer of rare earth elements (REE). The Tien Shan and Pamir Mountains regions, encompassing parts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, are of significant interest for mineral exploration as these regions are thought to host substantial undeveloped and undiscovered resources of REE and RM. Based on this legacy, and as an...

Current as of April 4, 2013:This geodatabase contains all freely available spatial information on surface wellsites related to energy resources in the Crown of the Continent area. Due to the free nature of the data, it is of mixed quality and should not be considered inclusive of all wellsites actually in the region. Some wells may possess a “Cancelled” status and lack a drilled hole but may still represent a clearing made for the once planned activity.Alberta Source: current as of September 2009; Montana Source: 1998-2000 (Ground water wells: 2009); and British Columbia Source: 2007-2008.

The goal of delineating Conservation Opportunity Areas (COAs) was to use relevant variables to map areas in South Dakota where increased emphasis on habitat conservation, protection, or management will benefit rare species and remaining intact native habitats. Identified areas may include lands owned or managed by federal, state, tribal, or private entities and areas that may already be managed to maximize species and habitat diversity. The COA maps are not intended to display a land acquisition blueprint, but are an attempt to identify areas that would help fulfill the specific objectives for terrestrial and aquatic systems in South Dakota, as described in the Wildlife Action Plan. The Missouri River Gap Analysis...

This dataset contains data collected within limestone cedar glades at Stones River National Battlefield (STRI) near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This dataset contains information on soil microbial metabolic diversity for soil samples obtained from certain quadrat locations (points) within 12 selected cedar glades. This information derives from substrate utilization profiles based on Biolog EcoPlates (Biolog, Inc., Hayward, CA, USA) which were inoculated with soil slurries containing the entire microbial community present in each soil sample. EcoPlates contain 31 sole-carbon substrates (present in triplicate on each plate) and one blank (control) well. Once the microbial community from a soil sample is inoculated onto...

This dataset contains data collected within limestone cedar glades at Stones River National Battlefield (STRI) near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This dataset represents data collected at 150 quadrat locations (points) within 12 selected cedar glades and contains quantitative characterizations of the ground surface, measurements of depth to bedrock (soil depth), and calculations of canopy coverage based on digital photography. When combined with the hydrologic and soil chemical and microbiological datasets described in the summary section, this information can be used to evaluate relationships between abiotic stressors (such as extreme hydrologic conditions, extreme temperatures, or thin soils) and soil microbial indicators....

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Primary roads are generally divided, limited-access highways within the interstate highway system or under State management, and are distinguished by the presence of interchanges. These highways are accessible by ramps and may...
