The USGS Colorado Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board, collected hydraulic data for the South Platte River for areas adjacent to Fort Morgan, Colo., based on the USGS streamgage 06759500 South Platte River at Fort Morgan, CO. The hydraulic data include survey point data for 54 cross sections and 10 pressure transducers, which are used to record the river stage beginning at Morgan County Road 16 and extending downstream to Morgan County Road 20.5 near Fort Morgan, Colo. The cross-section and pressure transducer location data were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems by USGS personnel from February 15, 2017, through April 18, 2017. These...
These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This digital geospatial data set consists of contours of lines of equal apparent thickness of the Trinidad Sandstone, the interval between the tops of the Trinidad Sandstone and the Pierre Shale, in Las Animas County, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey developed this data set as part of a cooperative project with the Colorado Water Conservation Board. Sources and interpretation of the data that were used to prepare this map are...
Chalk Cliffs, located 8 miles southwest of Buena Vista, Colorado, is one of the most active debris-flow areas in the state (U.S. Geological Survey). This "Child item" page includes videos of floods captured by one of the high-definition cameras at the monitoring site in Chalk Cliffs, CO. This camera (Firehose Camera) is located near the bottom of the channel. The attached figure "station_and_camera_locations.png" provides an overview figure with the location of the four cameras and three stations along the channel. Video recording for all cameras is triggered using a rainfall threshold (Michel et al., 2019). The complete videos for all the cameras are downloaded manually during site visits. More detailed information...
It has been shown that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 3060A does not adequately extract Cr(VI) from solids containing chromium ore processing residue (COPR). We systematically modified parameters of EPA 3060A towards improving extraction efficiency of Cr(VI) from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard reference material (SRM) 2701, a standard COPR-contaminated soil from New Jersey, USA. A material similar to NIST 2701 prepared in the laboratory from contaminated soil referred to as 2B was also analyzed. Extraction parameters tested were particle size, glass or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) extraction vessels, volume of extraction solution to mass of sample, and extraction...

This dataset consists of 102 magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected in 2012-2014 in the Rio Grande Rift and southern Rocky Mountains. The U.S. Geological Survey acquired these data to improve regional conductivity models of the western United States. This work is in support of studies of the effect of lithospheric modification on electrical resistivity structure and tectonic evolution of the western United States.

We developed and tested a new method for in situ characterization and distribution of inorganic particles in biopsied lung tissue from three diverse human subject groups using field emission scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive analyzer. Backscattered electron and secondary electron images of particulate matter in lung tissue were acquired. Inorganic particulate matter in the field of view of the image was analyzed using energy dispersive spectroscopy and subsequently identified and cataloged.

These data were used to examine drivers behind changes in water temperature downriver of dams across the western U.S. from 1995-2015 and the influence of such changes on rainbow trout recruitment and rainbow and brown trout adult length. First, we linked reservoir storage capacity and dam size to the warmest monthly water temperature per water year (WY) to assess the influence of low storage capacity (shallow reservoirs) on downstream water temperature. We then took results from previously published Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) that assessed the influence of physical and biological predictors (e.g., flow, trout density, reservoir metrics) on trout recruitment and adult size and added mean annual, maximum...

The High Plains aquifer extends from south of about 32 degrees to almost 44 degrees north latitude and from about 96 degrees 30 minutes to 106 degrees west longitude. The aquifer underlies about 175,000 square miles in parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming. This dataset consists of a raster of water-level changes for the High Plains aquifer, 2013 to 2015. This digital dataset was created using water-level measurements from 7,529 wells measured in both 2013 and 2015. The map was reviewed for consistency with the relevant data at a scale of 1:1,000,000.
The U.S. Geological Survey is developing national water-use models to support water resources management in the United States. Model benefits include a nationally consistent estimation approach, greater temporal and spatial resolution of estimates, efficient and automated updates of results, and capabilities to forecast water use into the future and assess model uncertainty. This data release contains data used in a machine learning model to estimate monthly water use for communities that are supplied by public-supply water systems in the conterminous United States for 2000-2020. This data release also contains associated scripts used to produce input features as well as model output values by 12-digit hydrologic...

This digital geospatial data set consists of structure contours of the top of the Raton Formation, the contact between the Raton and Poison Canyon Formations, in Las Animas County, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey developed this data set as part of a cooperative project with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

The Southwest Exotic Plant Mapping Program (SWEMP) is a collaborative effort between the United States Geological Survey and federal, tribal, state, county and non-governmental organization (NGO) partners in the southwest. This project is an ongoing effort to compile and distribute regional data on the occurrence of non-native invasive plants in the southwestern United States. The database represents the known sites (represented by a point location, i.e. site) of non-native invasive plant infestations within Arizona and New Mexico, and adjacent portions of California, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. These data, collected from 1911 to 2006, represent the field observations of various state, federal, tribal and county...
