Sensory input and systems are critical for organisms to respond to their environment, allowing movement to suitable habitat and potential escape from predators. While many stages of grass carp ontogeny have been described, neurosensory development remains unclear. Using behavioral tests, we looked at phonotaxis and chemotaxis from initial gas bladder inflation to the development of the second gas bladder chamber (the period during which larvae leave the drift and move into nursery areas). Rheotaxis was examined from hatch through gas bladder inflation by quantifying orientation in a laboratory flume.

The Landsat-based Irrigation Dataset (LANID) uses a random-forest machine-learning model with greenness and vegetative indices, climate data, and crop masks to identify irrigated crops (Xie and others, 2021, Xie and Lark, 2021). Separate western US and eastern US methods are used to train and validate the model. Annual LANID maps for 2018-20 were created using the same techniques in Xie and others, 2021, and Xie and Lark, 2021.

This dataset includes elevation-based probability and depth statistics for estimating inundation under various sea-level rise and high tide flooding scenarios in and around the National Park Service’s San Juan National Historic Site. These datasets were developed using 1-m digital elevation model (DEM) from the 3D Elevation program. This data release includes results from analyses of two local sea-level rise scenarios for two-time steps — the Intermediate-Low and Intermediate-High for 2050 and 2100 from Sweet and others (2022). Additionally, this data release includes maps of inundation probability under the minor, moderate, and major high tide flooding thresholds defined by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric...

This metadata document describes the data contained in the "Argos Processed Data" (Child Item 1) of this data release. This data release contains all data collected by the Argos System from 19 satellite transmitters attached to Northern Fulmars on their breeding range in the Bering Sea and northern Gulf of Alaska, 2001-2006. The raw data were processed to accomplish two goals: flag implausible location estimates and decode raw sensor data. Three Comma Separate Value (CSV) tables are included in the "Argos Processed Data" (Child Item 1) of this data release: 1) the "diag_filteredLocations" table contains one record for every Argos location estimate collected, accompanied by a binary flag that denotes an algorithm's...

This dataset represents probabilistic seismic hazard curves and uniform-hazard ground motion values calculated for a grid of points with a spacing of 0.2 degrees in latitude and longitude for the state of Alaska using the 2023 National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) for the state of Alaska. The dataset includes (1) probabilistic seismic hazard curves (full and truncated) for peak ground acceleration (PGA), and spectral acceleration for 0.2, 1.0, 2.0, and 5.0 seconds and (2) uniform-hazard ground motion values for 2, 5, and 10% in 50 years probability of exceedance (PE) (corresponding to 2,475, 975, and 475 year return periods, respectively) for each grid point. Results are provided for site classes BC and D, which...

The National Hydrologic Geospatial Fabric Reference and Derived Hydrofabrics is a geospatial dataset used for hydrologic modeling, containing a network of connected rivers, lakes, and catchments. It consists of four different network representations: Reference Fabric, Refactored Fabric, target-size Hydrofabric, and Point of Interest (POI) Aggregated Hydrofabric. Each representation is designed to meet specific modeling needs by providing different levels of consolidation and aggregation of the hydrographic features. The dataset includes features and attributes representing hydrologic locations associated with observational data, cataloging, or reporting water data quantity or quality, and structures important to...

To better understand pesticide exposure, silicone band samples were placed in five National Wildlife Refuges in the Sacramento Valley of Northern California. Silicone bands, used as aerial passive sampling collection devices, were flag-pinned half a meter off the ground and deployed for 28 days in the spring of 2023 (total of 176 bands). Upon retrieval, silicone bands were extracted via sonication with ethyl acetate and evaporated to 0.2 milliliters in acetonitrile. Samples were analyzed for 198 pesticides and degradates using both gas and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Overall, 36 pesticides and degradates were detected in the silicone bands.

This dataset contains tables of estimated fertilizer and manure nutrient inputs in kilograms to individual stream catchments of the continental United States from the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 (McKay and others, 2012). These data were downscaled from county-level estimates of nitrogen and phosphorus inputs from Falcone (2021) by allocating mass of applied nutrients to appropriate land-cover from the National Land Cover Dataset and summarizing by catchment. These data were compiled for the years 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017. This data release contains 8 comma separated variable tables that can be linked to the NHD Plus v2 dataset using the COMID unique identifier. Four of these tables contain information...

Future sea-level rise poses a risk to mangrove forests. To better understand potential vulnerability, we developed a numerical model of soil elevation for mangrove forests. We used the model to generate projections of elevation and mangrove forest composition change under six sea-level rise scenarios from 2020 through 2150. We employed a data-driven modeling approach, utilizing new and existing data to inform model parameters. The model was calibrated using dated soil cores and used a spin-up period to establish the soil column prior to future projections. Additional field data, including water level monitoring and elevation surveys, were used to estimate the initial elevation of the mangrove forest relative to...
