For Tribes where significant knowledge of traditional management practices is intact, but where all or part of ancestral lands are managed by other agencies, it is important that the sharing of TEK and implementation of management take place in a manner that promotes rather than hinders Tribal sovereignty and self-determination. This project will identify existing institutional and cultural barriers to the sharing of Tribal TEK and expansion of Tribal management and provide recommendations for their resolution at local, regional and national levels.

Climate change predictions include warming and drying trends, which are expected to be particularly pronounced in the southwestern United States. Improved Gulf Hypoxia Planning Tool: Landscape scale planning tools focus conservation priorities through a series of region-specific lenses. These tools include: CHAT; SECAS; Gulf Hypoxia Initiative - Precision Conservation Blueprint v1.5; and landscape designs developed by the Great Plains LCC and Gulf Coast Prairie LCC. It represents terrestrially-defined adaptive capacity, where values run from 0 to 1.0 and is calculated as the complement of the degree of human modification (1-H). Emerging applications of ecosystem resilience and resistance concepts in sagebrush ecosystems allow managers to better predict and mitigate impacts of wildfire and invasive annual grasses. Soil temperature and moisture strongly influence the kind and amount of vegetation, and consequently, are closely tied to sagebrush ecosystem resilience and resistance (Chambers et al. 2014). The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) is undergoing a Management Plan amendment that will integrate livestock grazing and rangeland management with the management of GSENM objects and resources. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is applying a broad scale approach to this planning process by analyzing regional trends observed for the Colorado Plateau (COP) Rapid Ecoregional Assessment (REA) in relation to their distribution and status in GSENM. The USDA, NASS Cropland Data Layer (CDL) is a raster, geo-referenced, crop-specific land cover data layer. The 2015 CDL has a ground resolution of 30 meters. The CDL is produced using satellite imagery from the Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS sensor and the Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) DEIMOS-1 and UK2 sensors collected during the current growing season.
