Note: this data release is currently being revised and is temporarily unavailable. The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) is a nation of more than thirty low-lying atolls and islands, most of which are inhabited, dispersed across an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) over 770,000 square miles in the tropical central North Pacific Ocean. Monitoring environmental conditions for potential drought risk is challenging in such a dispersed Island nation, and current drought hazard products provide generalities regarding conditions on a broad geographic scale. A team of USGS scientists and managers of natural resources and natural hazards in the RMI used IMERG (Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM) satellite estimates...

National-scale geologic, geophysical, and mineral resource raster and vector data covering the United States, Canada, and Australia are provided in this data release. The data were compiled as part of the tri-national Critical Minerals Mapping Initiative (CMMI). The CMMI, established in 2019, is an international science collaboration between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Geoscience Australia (GA), and the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). One aspect of the CMMI is to use national- to global-scale earth science data to map where critical mineral prospectivity may exist using advanced machine learning approaches (Kelley, 2020). The geoscience information presented in this report include the training and evidential...

In August 2017, the U.S. Geological Survey acquired high-resolution P- and S-wave seismic data near six Southern California Seismic Network (SCSN) recording stations in southern California: CI.OLI Olinda; CI.SRN Serrano; CI.MUR Murrieta; CI.LCG La Cienega; CI.RUS Rush; and CI.STC Santa Clara (Figure 1). These strong-motion recording stations are located inside Southern California Edison electrical substations, critical infrastructures that provide essential services to millions of customers. The primary goals of the seismic survey were to understand the potential for amplified ground shaking and to evaluate lateral variability in shear-wave velocity at these sites. We deployed up to 88 geophones at 2-m or 4-m...

This dataset contains linework for a simplified Quaternary fault map of Puerto Rico, and is described in Table 4 and Figure 24 in the related manuscript. Faults are classified into three different classes based on the presence or absence of geologic evidence for Quaternary fault activity and tectonic origin, and this dataset includes faults that may have weak, equivocal, or limited evidence for Quaternary deformation or tectonic origin. See related manuscript for additional details on interpretation and use of the linework. Related manuscript: Thompson Jobe, J. A. R. Briggs, K. S. Hughes, J. Joyce, R. Gold, S. Mahan, H. Gray, L. Jointly managed by multiple states and the federal government, there are many ongoing efforts to characterize and understand water quality in the Delaware River Basin (DRB). Many State, Federal and non-profit organizations have collected surface-water-quality samples across the DRB for decades and many of these data are available through the National Water Quality Monitoring Council's Water Quality Portal (WQP). For this data release, WQP data in the DRB were harmonized, meaning that they were processed to create a clean and readily usable dataset. The harmonization process included the synthesis of parameter names and fractions, the condensation of remarks and other data qualifiers, the resolution of duplicate...

An ASD FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res NG Spectroradiometer was used to collect the reflectance properties of soil and rock in Prince William Sound (Figure 1). Reflectance is a property of the material being observed, being the ratio of the amount of light leaving a target to the amount of light striking the target. Reflectance is a unitless value from 0 to 1, where a value of 0 indicates that the material absorbs all energy and 1 indicates total reflectance. The ASD FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res NG is a point spectrometer that has a spectral range of 350 to 2500 nm, covering the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectral resolution is 3 nm at 700 nm and 6 nm at...

The Russian River Watershed (RRW) covers about 1300 square miles (without Santa Rosa Plain) of urban, agricultural, and forested lands in northern Sonoma County and southern Mendocino County, California. Communities in the RRW depend on a combination of Russian River water and groundwater to meet their water-supply demands. Water is used primarily for agricultural irrigation, municipal and private wells supply, and commercial uses - such as for wineries and recreation. Annual rainfall in the RRW is highly variable, making it prone to droughts and flooding from atmospheric river events. In order to better understand surface-water and groundwater issues, the USGS is creating a Coupled Ground-Water and Surface-Water...

In cooperation with state and county agencies, including the Chester County Water Resources Authority (CCWRA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has collected discrete stream samples for analysis of chloride concentrations at three real-time streamflow and water-quality monitoring (specific conductance) stations located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Data were collected from 2010-2023 at these stations for the application of predicting chloride concentrations using real-time continuous specific conductance and streamflow data. Regression equations were developed by relating discrete-sample chloride and discrete specific conductance data, as well as continuous streamflow data. Regression equations included possible...

This geologic map database compiles, in digital form, geologic data previously published as printed maps showing the altitude of the base of Dakota Sandstone and equivalent rocks on the Colorado Plateau in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. Data were compiled from U.S. Geological Survey 1:250,000-scale geologic maps and other topical maps that included structure contours of the base of the Dakota Sandstone. Surface and subsurface data compiled include mapped polygons of the Dakota Sandstone and equivalent units, faults, fold axes, structure contours, and bedding attitudes calculated from the structure contours. All data were compiled as a GeMS digital database. This digital geologic database is a companion...

Open pit uranium mining in Atascosa, Karnes, and Live Oak Counties in the Texas gulf coast region was active during the second half of the 20th century. Understanding the history of these mining operations is important for proper management and restoration. Although some mines have extensive records documenting the locations and extents of mining pits and mine waste-rock piles, and provide descriptions of reclamation activities, abandoned mines with little to no such documentation are present on the landscape. A multiple lines of evidence approach using lidar derivatives and multispectral remote sensing temporal analysis (Stengel, 2022) was developed to (1) identify uranium mine waste-rock, wastewater, and land...

This data release documents neotectonic mapping of fault-related features on high-resolution lidar-derived topography, data documenting an exposure of the South Lajas fault, and summary information for active and potentially active Quaternary faults on the island of Puerto Rico. The data documenting the exposure of the South Lajas fault include detailed unit descriptions, radiocarbon sample descriptions, data, and results, and a structure-from-motion-derived orthophoto mosaic of the exposure. Luminescence data and ages for the exposure can be found in a related data release. These datasets are associated with the manuscript: Thompson Jobe, J. A. R. Briggs, K. S. Hughes, J. Joyce, R. Gold, S. Mahan, H. Gray, L. Strickland...

The handling and disposal of the brine has resulted in contamination of not only the shallow aquifers in the East Poplar oil field, but also the Poplar River (Thamke and Craigg, 1997; Thamke and Smith, 2014). The shallow aquifers are the only available source...
