Collection of seismic smoke drum records from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Seismic monitoring in Hawaii began in 1912 and has evolved considerably since then. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory now has a seismic network that extends across the entire Island of Hawai'i. Over the years, the monitoring, analytical, and interpretive capabilities of the network has increased. These seismic smoke drum records were produced by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory as part of the seismic monitoring network in 1912–2011. They are contained in cardboard boxes. Boxes are stored on a total of 32 pallets, with each pallet containing ~100 boxes.

This collection consists of field notebooks created by the personnel of the Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS) and its predecessor, the Minnesota Geological and Natural History Survey (MGNHS). The notes include basic data used to compile annual reports and bulletins on geological matters. For a description of the extent of geological work performed during the eras of the MGNHS and MGS, consult George M. Schwartz, “History of the Minnesota Geological Survey,” which identifies the individual studies made by officers of the survey between 1872 and 1963. The MGS was a major source of funding for faculty research, which focused on field petrology, mineralogy and economic geology and aligned to the individual professional...

A compilation of drill core logs and thin section notes, including well abandonment reports, drill hole location maps, and associated notes, from Minnesota Geological Survey Precambrian geologists. These logs and notes were scanned using NGGDPP FY22 support and will support future investigations of Precambrian geology by MGS Precambrian geologists, other statewide stakeholders, industry, and universities.

This collection contains samples collected for Richard F. Hardyman's PhD dissertation, "Volcanic Stratigraphy and Structural Geology of Gillis Canyon Quadrangle, Northern Gillis Range, Mineral County, Nevada," from the University of Nevada Reno 1978. The fieldwork for the dissertation was supported by the USGS Special Projects Branch through a temporary "While Actually Employed" appointment. This collection consists primarily of Tertiary volcanic rocks stored in cardboard seven boxes on a wood pallet. Two of the boxes contain cut samples in individual containers within the boxes.

This collection contains numerous zoological specimens from the southwestern United States. Specimens were collected beginning in the 1920s through 2013 and include mammals, fish, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. This is a legacy collection that was transferred to the USGS from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in 1996 when the unit that would become the Biological Resources Division became part of the USGS. Specimens were accessioned as museum property in 2002, 2003, and 2006. The collection contains voucher specimens of vertebrates collected on Federal land in the western United States. It is administered by the USGS Fort Collins Science Center and housed at the Museum of Southwestern Biology at the University...

This collection contains materials to support ongoing USGS research and resource assessments of gas hydrate reservoir systems in the Alaska North Slope. The collection contains outcrop field samples from the Sagwon and Franklin Buffs KT sections collected during the 1992 and 1994 field season as well as geophysical seismic shot hole drill cuttings collected in support of the 1977 ANWR 2D seismic survey. The materials are stored in cardboard boxes on one wood pallet.
