This dataset includes Rain On Snow Event(rose) for northern Alaska in GeoTiff format, covering the years 1980-2012. Rain On Snow Event is defined as number of days with rain on snow(days). The dataset was generated by the Arctic LCC SNOWDATA: Snow Datasets for Arctic Terrestrial Applications project. The dataset is delivered in the ZIP archive file format. Each year is output in a separate GeoTiff file, where the year is indicated by the filename.Over the last 20 years, under a variety of NOAA, NSF, and NASA research programs, a snow-evolution modeling system has been developed that includes the MicroMet micrometeorological model, the SnowModel snow-process model, and the SnowAssim data assimilation model. These...

Note: this data release has been deprecated. Find the new version here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9QCLGKM. This NetCDF represents the monthly inputs and outputs from a United States Geological Survey water-balance model (McCabe and Wolock, 2011) for the conterminous United States for the period 1895-01-01 to 2020-12-31. The source data used to run the water balance model is based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's(NOAA, 2020) ClimGrid data for precipitation and temperature. This NetCDF contains the following monthly inputs: temperature (degrees Celsius) and precipitation (millimeters, mm) and the following outputs (all in mm): runoff, soil moisture storage, actual evapotranspiration, potential...

This dataset includes nine files (in comma-separated value format [.csv]) which contain metrics that are described in the Bock and others 2018 Earth Interactions article “Do downscaled general circulation models reliably simulate historical climatic conditions?” Three files contain p-values from the two-sided Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test that compared distributions of three variables (precipitation [CONUS_KS_PPT.csv], temperature [CONUS_KS_TAVE.csv], and runoff [CONUS_KS_RUN.csv]) derived from statistically-downscaled general circulation models (SD GCM) with distributions of the three variables derived from gridded station data (GSD) for historical conditions (1950 through 2005). Three files contain the x-axis value...

The Herring River estuary (Wellfleet, Cape Cod, Massachusetts) has been tidally restricted for over a century by a dike constructed near the mouth of the river. Behind the dike, the tidal restriction has caused the conversion of salt marsh wetlands to various other ecosystems including impounded freshwater marshes, flooded shrub land, drained forested upland, and wetlands dominated by Phragmites australis. This estuary is now managed by the National Park Service, which has plans to replace the dike and restore tidal flow to the estuary. To assist National Park Service land managers with restoration planning, study collaborators have been investigating differences in soil properties, carbon accumulation, and greenhouse...

Semi-arid urban environments are undergoing an increase in air temperatures, both in average temperatures and in the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events. Within cities, different varieties of urban landcovers (ULC) and their densities influence local air temperatures, either mitigating or increasing heat. Currently, understanding how various combinations of ULCs influence air temperature at the block to neighborhood scale is limited due to the complexities of urban energy balances at small scales. We quantified how ULC influences air temperature at 60 m resolution for day and nighttime climate normals and heatwaves, by integrating data from microclimate temperature sensor networks and high-resolution...
