Average tree diameter (dbh) is also an important forest condition for some species requiring large trees and subsequent tree cavities for denning/nesting/roosting sites. The GCPO LCC ISA targets diameter of upland hardwood forest and woodland trees to be ≥14” dbh. The standardized Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) national program, which collects data using standardized field protocols across counties in every state annually, may be the only landscape-scale data source feasible to investigate average tree diameter in the absence of other large-scale data sources in the GCPO geography. We used FIA-imputed data on average tree diameter (DBH, inches) (USDA Forest Service Remote Sensing Applications Center [USFS],...

These raster files showing wetland areas that were ponded during Rainwater Basin Wetland Complex Annual Habitat Survey. Annual Habitat Surveys (AHS) identify areas of wetland ponding and function (ponding and potential hydrophyte vegetation) during spring migration. The information is developed by Rainwater Basin Joint Venture to identifying how much habitat the Rainwater Basin Wetland Complex provides to migratory waterfowl on an annual basis. AHS have been completed for 2004 and 2006-2020 where high-resolution aerial photos of the Rainwater Basin Wetland Complex are classified using an image object classification software to determine land cover (hydrophyte water, agriculture water, hydrophytes, agriculture, or...
The Gulf of Mexico is estimated to contain nearly half of all U.S. salt marsh systems, which are rapidly disappearing within the Gulf States. Salt marshes are complex, dynamic, and transitional systems that provide habitat for a myriad of wildlife species, filtration that supports water quality, and natural barriers that contribute to the security of inland coastal areas. Loss of coastal wetlands and degradation of estuarine habitat along the northern Gulf of Mexico, and particularly along coastal Louisiana have been recognized as two of the primary issues influencing Gulf ecosystem integrity.Several multi-agency consortiums, including the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force, have identified conservation...

This projects primary goal was to provide data on occurrence and abundance of SAV resources within the fresh to saline coastal waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico, and to relate these findings to key environmental variables. The data set provides the collected data from 2013, 2014 and 2015 on site location, discrete water quality, aquatic vegetation cover and biomass by species. The same 384 sites were collected each year, between June and September. This project was co-funded by the Gulf Coast Prairie and the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperatives and the South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center. Human-induced climate change is increasingly recognized as a fundamental driver of biological processes and patterns, and a threat to the persistence of many species. Recent climate change has already caused shifts in the geographic ranges of myriad species and future climate change is expected to result in even greater redistributions of taxa. As a result, predicting the impact of climate change on future patterns of biodiversity has become a fundamental aspect of conservation planning. Here we use Audubon Christmas Bird Count and North American Breeding Bird Survey data in combination with detailed climate data and projections to estimate the current and future ranges of birds throughout the United States and...

This database was compiled as a part of a species distribution modeling project, and contains species traits obtained from targeted literature searches for 26 threatened and endangered species located in Florida. All of the traits below are searchable through this query tool, and a list of species with data that match your criteria will be generated. All data can be exported to Excel. For more information, please select the links containing the project information and metadata.

Basal area is a measure of the cross-sectional area of trees calculated by multiplying the foresters’ constant (0.005454) by the squared diameter of each tree to determine a measure of tree area (ft2 or m2) per unit area (acre or ha). Similar to an assessment of forest canopy cover, basal area provides a measure of horizontal structure, and is closely associated with measures of vertical structure. When assessing condition of upland hardwood woodland and forest systems, the GCPO LCC Integrated Science Agenda targets a large proportion of the basal area in those systems to be composed of oak and hickory species. This endpoint targets >90% of basal area as oak and hickory for upland hardwood woodland systems and >70%...

This is the GeoPackage (“TMG_AdditionalAreas.gpkg”) that contains the layer (“main.TMG_NewAreas”) depicting the spatial extent of the four Additional Survey Areas that are assessed during the annual MBM-AK TLSA molting goose aerial surveys. This GeoPackage (NAD83; ESPG: 3338) was created by Michael Swain in August 2021 and subsequently emailed to Maggie Harings. It includes waterbody units, waterbody types, and waterbody perimeter as well as their areas.

This collection of files contains the reports that were produced when the raw data were quality-checked against the defined standards in the “Transcribed Data Dictionary” using the “GreenLight” function of the R Package “AKaerial.” The QC log files document the quality control process, data standards, and what changes (if any) were made in the QC data compared to the raw data. Each log file was named following the same file naming conventions: SSS_YYYY_QCLog_OOOO_yyyy-mm-dd, where; YKD = Duck data, YKG = Goose data or YYY=Year, OOOO = observer’s first initial and last name,yyyy-mm-dd = year, month, and day the AKaerial.R (“GreenLight”) function in was most recently executed

The North American Bee Distribution Tool is an interactive portal that allows for rapid assessment of apparent bee species richness throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tool incorporates species occurrence data of six families of bees using data provided by GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility, www.gbif.org), as well as conservation status rankings provided by NatureServe (www.natureserve.org). Users can filter from a variety of options, such as temporal range, geographic location (country, state, county, FWS legacy region), NatureServe conservation status, or taxonomic classification (family, genus, species). The tool is comprised of a central map showing spatial distribution of bee species...
