These data were compiled to examine rates of skipped migration in adult humpback chub that spawn in the Little Colorado River (LCR). These data include mark-recapture information from the lower 13.56 kilometers of the LCR and from the Colorado River, from river kilometer 105.5-145.7 downstream of Glen Canyon Dam. Data also include detections from a multiplexer array (MUX) that is located in the LCR and from submersible PIT tag antennas that are deployed in parts of the Colorado River. These data are capture histories that include both spring and fall sampling events that occurred between spring 2009 and spring 2019. Capture histories can include information about size (small adults being 200-249mm total length and...
California’s Central Valley is a nexus for water resources in the state, draining the Sacramento and San Joaquin River watersheds. Urban centers, agricultural operations, and the environment all compete for limited water, and demand is expected to only increase as the population grows and agriculture intensifies. At the same time, the water supply is projected to decrease as temperatures rise, precipitation patterns change, and the frequency of extreme droughts increases. The Central Valley also provides critical wetland habitats to migratory waterbirds, and wetland managers require information on how to best use water resources to support wildlife objectives, particularly during drought. This project seeks to...

This data release contains information on the seasonal diversity and abundance of arthropods collected at the Colville River Delta, Alaska, 2011-2012 and 2014-2107. Researchers with the US Geological Survey began studying the reproductive ecology of birds at a site on the Colville River near the Beaufort Sea coast in 2011. Researchers concurrently collected arthropods at 3-day intervals to understand the relationship between the seasonal abundance of arthropods and the reproductive output of insectivorous birds.
This dataset provides one table of bioenergetic and morphological measurements of Pacific blue mussels (Mytilus trossulus; N = 444) collected at three intertidal sites in Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska. Mussels were collected at the same tidal height across all three sites on a nearly monthly basis from 2014-2015.

Growth potential of redband trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss newberri) was simulated across 175 river segments in the Donner und Blitzen River basin for water years 1980 through 2021 using a bioenergetics model. A previously published framework for assessing climate vulnerability of redband trout was used to simulate the growth potential of redband trout in relation to constraints on body size, physiological responses linked to variable thermal regimes, and variation in physiological adaptive capacity. For body size, three starting sizes of redband trout, 10 g, 50 g, and 150 g, were used for each day of the simulations. For thermal regimes, daily stream temperatures were estimated from PRISM. To account for variation...

This dataset represents a modeling effort intended to explore the impacts of oiling on migratory birds. The purpose of this model is to provide a first principles approach to predict potential biological impacts of altered energetics dynamics in north American migratory birds due to oiling of feathers. This data includes predicted theoretical impacts on migration timing, wintering latitude, starvation rates, and increased food uptake. This data was generated through model implementation in R (R Core Team 2020; Version 4.0.4).
This data release comprises 4 datasets used to measure the field metabolic rate, body composition, foraging success, behavior, and movement patterns of 9 female polar bears on the sea ice of the Beaufort Sea in April, 2014-2016 as well as 1 dataset used to measure the energetic cost of resting in an adult female polar bear at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego, CA. Wild bears were dosed with and had their blood analyzed for oxygen-18 and deuterium concentrations, equipped with GPS-enabled satellite video camera collars with tri-axial accelerometers, and blood was measured for serum urea and creatinine levels. The bear at the San Diego Zoo had her oxygen consumption measured while resting in a metabolic chamber.
This release includes data used to evaluate the structure and function of the Ross Lake and Diablo Lake food webs. This includes data on zooplankton density and production (zooplankton_density.csv and daphnia_region_production_biomass.csv), lake volume estimates used to expand zooplankton density and production data (lake_volume_estimates.csv), fish sampling (FishSampleEvents.csv), fish biological information including diets, age, and stable isotope analysis (FishFullData_formatted.csv, FishPreyLength.csv), scale back-calculations (salmonid_back_calc.csv, rss_back_calc.csv), fish energy density (calorimetry_processed.csv), stable isotope data for invertebrate end members (si_inverts.csv), and hydroacoustic sampling...

This dataset is one table with time-linked behavior data derived from video camera collars on polar bears on land near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Eighteen polar bears were equipped with video-camera collars (Vertex Plus collar with camera option, Vectronic Aerospace GmbH, Berlin, Germany) for 19 - 23 days in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
SWAMP provides a tool for wildlife management stakeholders to predict the effects of landscape changes on populations of foragers, specifically focused on waterfowl and other migratory birds. Specifically, we have developed SWAMP as a spatially-explicit agent based model to determine the carrying capacity and energy budgets of waterfowl foraging on moist-soil managed wetlands and flooded riceland during winter in the Central Valley (CV), with a goal to extend the application of SWAMP to other regions and species. SWAMP models the time-budget, foraging activities, and metabolic state of each bird individually throughout the season. While the rules governing patch selection and foraging behavior are user-defined (e.g....

This data release contains the complete set of modeling input and output files for a Heat Source water temperature model and fish bioenergetics model on the lower Quinault River in Washington state. A detailed description of the modeling process, results, and interpretation can be found in the associated primary publication.
These data include aerobic scope and thermal tolerance measurements from two cisco (Coregonus artedi) populations to evaluate performance and potential adaptation to warming Great Lakes habitats. Cisco come from two stock sources: 1) a northern latitude Lake Huron stock collected as gametes from Les Cheneaux Islands, MI, USA in 2015 and raised in a USGS aquaculture lab in Ann Arbor, MI, and 2) a southern latitude stock from Crooked Lake, Noble County, IN, USA collected as adults from the wild in 2021 and 2022 and brought to Ann Arbor, MI. Data include three primary datasets. "Aerobic Scope Compiled Data" provides measures of cisco (Coregonus artedi) metabolic rates from 30L swim chamber respirometry trials (n=88)....
