This data release contains three data sets. The data were collected in 1996 at the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, ND, USA. The main data set comprises the list of plant species observed and includes the transect, plot number, plot size, and vegetation type where each species was found. A second data set has the locations of the transects, along with their IDs which can be linked to the species list. The final data set is a list of nomenclature updates and species that had duplicates in ITIS, along with the currently accepted scientific names of these species.

We developed habitat suitability models for three invasive plant species: stiltgrass (Microstegium vimineum), sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata), and privet (Ligustrum sinense). We applied the modeling workflow developed in Young et al. 2020, developing similar models for occurrence data, but also models trained using species locations with percent cover ≥10%, ≥25%, and ≥50%. We chose predictors from a national library of environmental variables known to physiologically limit plant distributions (Engelstad et al. 2022 Table S1) and relied on human input based on natural history knowledge to further narrow the variable set for each species before developing habitat suitability models. These data were compiled to assess physiological responses of plants to short-term changes in streamflow, both increased and decreased. The data were collected at Morley Nelson, Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA) where known grazing regimes, including the season of grazing, have been in practice for the last 30 years. Surveyed plots were placed to account for intensity of grazing and to avoid confounding disturbances. Data were collected on the morphogroups of biological soil crusts (biocrusts) found within the NCA, and include measurements on soils related to texture, carbon, nitrogen and the abundance of soil aggregating cyanobacteria in the soil. In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey calculated four land cover basin characteristics rasters from the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2019 as part of updating the South Carolina StreamStats application. These datasets are raster representations of impervious surface, developed, forested, and storage land cover attributes within the South Carolina StreamStats study area, and will be served in the South Carolina StreamStats application (https://www.usgs.gov/streamstats) to describe delineated watersheds. This is a dataset containing aggregated non-native plant occurrence and abundance data for the contiguous United States. We used these data to develop habitat suitability models for species found in the Eastern United States using locations with 5% cover or greater. We adapted the INHABIT modeling workflow (Young et al. 2020), using a consistent set of climatic predictors that were important in the INHABIT models. Fifty-one tidal marsh sites across five regions (sub-embayments) were surveyed in the Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, central San Francisco Bay, and South San Francisco Bay. Vegetation surveys spanned ten years, from July 2008 to January 2018. A total of 5,112 plots were surveyed. Plots were positioned on transects along an elevation gradient and evenly distributed across each site, where possible, to capture spatial variability along elevation and distance gradients. At each plot, percent cover of all plant species, bare ground, and litter as well as average height was visually assessed within a 0.25 m2 quadrat.
