This dataset includes tables summarizing image information and bird counts from the aerial digital images taken over open water at Izembek Lagoon in Alaska in fall 2017-2019. These summaries list one record per image and provide the camera parameters, latitude, longitude, altitude, and automated and manual counts representing the total number of birds in each taxon (brant, white-cheeked geese, emperor geese, gulls, and other birds) identified in the image. The original images (.JPG format) and annotations are provided in an accompanying USGS data release (Weiser et al. 2022).

These data are in seven tables relating to surveys of eelgrass (Zostera marina) and widgeongrass (Ruppia maritima) beds in embayments of the north Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexico. The tables provide environmental conditions, eelgrass and widgeongrass abundance, and measurements used to estimate their aboveground biomass. These tables also provide information on percent cover, location, and tide height of eelgrass, widgeongrass and seaweeds, and water conditions during the survey. This data release has been SUPERSEDED. No data are provided here. The geospatial outlines and herd size estimates of Chukchi Sea autumn walrus haulouts, interpreted from Satellite imagery, have been combined into a single updated U.S. Geological Survey data release: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9CSM0KN This data release contains maps, geospatial files, and a table of the satellite imagery types with the dates when they were collected and examined to interpret the presence of, and area occupied by, walruses at terrestrial haulouts. Estimates of the land area occupied by walruses are provided based on interpretation by experienced image reviewers. The images are from a variety of Earth observing satellite imagery sources...

This dataset provides clam species abundance and size data from intertidal and subtidal mixed sediment habitats in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve (GBNPP). Data are provided for all observed clams, horse mussels, or urchins 14 mm or larger. Sampling involved excavating 25 cm of substrate from quadrats (approximately 0.25 sq meter) along transects at random and selected sites, 10 quadrats at the 0 Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) tide level for intertidal sampling and 20 quadrats at approximately 9 m depth for subtidal sampling. Site and taxonomic information are provided. Abundance and size data are provided in two tables with different data configurations: (1) a compact version with data for those species observed...

This dataset contains sampling information and genetic data of 12 novel microsatellite loci developed and polymorphic in the Sea Sandwort (Honckenya peploides) and screened in Merckia (Wilhelmsia physodes) from Alaska. The allele sizes for the 12 microsatellite loci developed in this study are included for two populations of Sea Sandwort (Fossil Beach, Kodiak and Egg Bay, Atka) and one population of Merckia (upper Coleen River, Brooks Range).

This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F74J0C9Z Multiple tables (one for each sample station and frequency) with echointegration data from forage fish survey transects in Prince William Sound, Alaska. Each file contains analysis exports from EchoView Software Pty Ltd. ver. 7.1.29.30212. Version History: First release: April 2017 Revised: February 2021 (ver. 2.0) Revised: March 2023 (ver. 3.0) Revised: September 2024 (ver. 4.0)
This data set describes nuclear microsatellite genotypes derived from eight autosomal loci (Aph02, Aph11, Aalµ1, Sfiµ4, Smo4, Smo7, Smo12, and Sfiµ8) and accession numbers for double digest restriction-site associated DNA (ddRAD) sequences.
The imagery and annotations presented here were generated while testing an aerial photographic survey design to improve repeatability, transparency, and estimation of variance for annual population estimates of geese staging at Izembek Lagoon, Alaska. This dataset includes 1) 131,031 .JPG images captured from a small fixed-wing occupied aircraft, usually at an altitude of about 457 m, over Izembek Lagoon; 2) annotations of objects (geese, ducks, and gulls) assigned by an automated algorithm, and 3) manually corrected annotations that were edited by project staff for only those photos automatically identified as containing geese of any species. The photos were captured at predetermined points to systematically sample...

This dataset provides one table of bioenergetic and morphological measurements of Pacific blue mussels (Mytilus trossulus; N = 444) collected at three intertidal sites in Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska. Mussels were collected at the same tidal height across all three sites on a nearly monthly basis from 2014-2015.

This dataset is one table with results of tests to determine exposure of Chukchi Sea polar bears to a suite of pathogens. Results are serological tests for antibodies and tests of fecal samples for presence of parasites. Serologic assays were conducted for Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum, Francisella tularensis, Coxiella burnetii, Leptospira spp., Brucella canis, Brucella abortus/suis, and canine distemper virus. Parasitology analyses were conducted for presence of Giardia cysts and Cryptospiridium oocysts in fecal samples. Polar bears were sampled on sea ice in the Chukchi Sea between mid-March and early May 1987-1994 and 2008-2017. The dataset includes relevant information about the bears that were captured...
These data are in three folders of Keyhole Markup Language (KML) geospatial polygons representing the outlines of walrus herds apparent in satellite imagery. Each KML file contains one or more geospatial polygons of walrus herd outlines created by one observer who visually interpreted the images. The attribute values from all KML files are collected in a CSV table included with this data package. Additional walrus satellite image-derived Chukchi Sea walrus haulout outlines are available in another USGS data release (Fischbach and Douglas 2022; https://doi.org/10.5066/P9CSM0KN)
This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7T43R88 This data package provides data from Pacific Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) tagged with VHF radio transmitters in July 1999 on the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska and detected in the following two years during their annual migration. Data include: 1) one table with attributes of the tagged brant, 2) one table with estimated dates of migration events, and 3) seven tables of detection data from radio tracking scans at coastal sites between Alaska and Mexico. This data is part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long term monitoring program, benthic monitoring component and a seasonal diet study in Kenai Fjords National Park. The dataset is a comma separated file exported from a Microsoft Access database. The data consists of observations made of foraging sea otters (Enhydra lutris). Observers used Questar field model spotting scopes and binoculars to identify prey. Date, local time, dive duration, success, prey type, prey size, prey number, handling time and surface time are all recorded. Sites are in Alaska and include locations in Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park and Prince William Sound. This data in this file were collected 2012-2016.

This metadata document describes the data contained in the "Argos GPS Raw Data" (Child Item 2). This data package contains all data collected from 130 Argos and Argos-linked GPS satellite transmitters attached to Buff-breasted Sandpipers at breeding sites in Alaska, migratory stopovers in Texas, and wintering areas in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, 2016-2018. The 130 deployed tags were comprised of 22 Argos Doppler PTTs (2 gram PTTs built by Microwave Telemetry) and 108 Argos-linked GPS PTTs (2 gram PinPoint tags built by Lotek). However, 14 Pinpoints never reported data, so they only appear in the deployment data records and not the location data files. One of the 94 functional PinPoint tags never reported GPS...
