These data are comprised of measurements of aluminum, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, molybdenum, silver, cadmium, thallium, lead, bismuth, thorium, uranium, and mercury in soil, vegetation, and small rodents. Gross alpha activity, gross beta activity, and radionuclide activities (isotopic U, isotopic Th) are also presented for vegetation and soil. Radioactivities for small rodents were previously presented at https://doi.org/10.5066/P9HARTQ4. Samples were collected at the Kanab North Mine (post-mining, pre-reclamation) in the Grand Canyon watershed.

These data are comprised of measurements of aluminum, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, molybdenum, silver, cadmium, thallium, lead, bismuth, thorium, uranium, and mercury in invertebrates, vegetation, and small rodents. Gross alpha activity, gross beta activity, and radionuclide activities (isotopic U, isotopic Th) are also presented for vegetation; radioactivities for small rodents were previously presented at https://doi.org/10.5066/P9HARTQ4. Histopathology results are given for liver and kidney lesions generally associated with metals toxicoses in small rodents. Samples were collected at the Pinenut Mine (active mining) and Arizona 1 Mine (post-production) in the Grand Canyon watershed....
A new transportation demand model is described showing a simple data-base structure. It only requires input data referring to the fleets and the engine characteristics of the transportation park. The main characteristic of the model is its expertise in analysing the effects of different policies oriented to the reduction of the pollution levels and to the energy savings in the transportation sector. The results are provided both in terms of energy consumption and quantities of pollutant released to the environment. The effects of different transportation scenarios can be easily analysed using a simple "electronic sheet" way of representation.

Background elemental data on soil composition at Arches National Park are reported. The enrichment factor analysis of the soil data from Arches National Park provides some interpretation of the current elemental status of soils at the park. These data provide a basis for determining changes in elemental enrichment status in the future.
This paper estimates the extra costs of drilling for oil and gas on federal land as compared to private land in the Wyoming Checkerboard. The Checkerboard is a center of U.S. oil and gas activity in which square-mile sections of property alternate between federal and private ownership as originally established by the Pacific Railway Acts of 1862 and 1864. This land ownership pattern is used as an experimental control that may be used to identify differences in drilling cost on federal and private land. Estimates presented suggest that average drilling costs per well are about $200,000 higher on federal property than on private property. This difference is attributed to more stringent enforcement of environmental...

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and co-occurring inorganic and organic contaminants are widely distributed in the environment and understanding their surface water sources is critical for water resource management. In November 2021, 13 sites were sampled along a stream reach in the Neshaminy Creek basin in southeastern Pennsylvania utilizing a time of travel sampling approach. The reach had known potential PFAS source inputs and documented PFAS detections in water samples. This data release describes the sampling approach, sample processing, laboratory analytical methods, and contains the results. Site (Table_1_NC_2021_Site_Info) and constituent information (Table_2_Constituents) are provided in tab...

A rich legacy of geochemical data produced since the early 1960s covers the great expanse of Alaska; careful treatment of such data may provide significant and revealing geochemical maps that may be used for landscape geochemistry, mineral resource exploration, and geoenvironmental investigations over large areas. To maximize the spatial density and extent of data coverage for statewide mapping of element distributions, we compiled and integrated analyses of more than 175,000 sediment and soil samples from three major, separate sources: the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Uranium Resource Evaluation program, and the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys geochemical databases. Various types of...

Tree swallow, Tachycineta bicolor, nestlings were collected from 76 sites in the Great Lakes which included multiple sites at 27 Areas of Concern (AOCs) and 12 sites not listed as AOCs from 2010 to 2015. Livers were harvested and analyzed for 21 elements. Mercury concentrations differed among AOCs; however, all livers analyzed had concentrations well within background and generally comparable or lower than most sites outside of the Great Lakes. Mercury, the only element specifically identified in the designation of AOCs, does not seem to pose a threat to birds at any of the AOCs monitored. In contrast, selenium (Se) concentrations were elevated at sites on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan to levels that could...

This paper analyzes the determinants and barriers of energy conservation investment behaviour. A number of barriers were found in a literature survey. A three-phase investment model on the micro level was constructed. Hypotheses derived from the model were empirically tested by analyzing a survey of more than 300 Dutch Firms. Economic variables seem to determine investment behaviour to a large extent.
Eight major industrial processes areresponsible for over 50% of industrial energy consumption in most countries. The energy efficiency of these processes was determined in a number of countries, with appropriate corrections for structural differences between countries. It is shown that considerable differences occur between countries, but that manufacturing industry in Eastern Europe in general is less efficient than in EU countries. In all cases efficiency is worse than what is technically and economically feasible. International comparisons provide information on energy efficiency differences, insight into technological differences between countries and into costs requirements for efficiency improvements. The...

These data are comprised of measurements of elements (i.e., aluminum, iron, vanadium, chromium, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, cadmium, tin, antimony, barium, thallium, lead, mercury, sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, manganese, and strontium) in Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) egg contents. The eggs were collected along the Texas Gulf coast in 2010-2013; only eggs that failed to hatch were retained for analyses. All results are provided on a dry-weight basis in units of mg/kg.
The Idaho Geological Survey Digital Analytical Data (DAD) publications series consists of tables of sample locations, test results such as whole-rock XRF, and other attribute information including labs, dates, and names of collectors. The DAD series are delivered as XLSX (Windows Excel files) spreadsheets and include metadata. These data will eventually be processed into the Idaho Geological Survey's Geochem database.

Bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) were frequently photographed by wildlife cameras when they visited desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) burrows in the eastern San Bernardino Mountains near Palm Springs, California, USA (Mesa Windfarm). A previous study suggested that sheep may have been utilizing the excavated spoil material from burrows as a mineral lick. We aimed to test this possibility by collecting soil samples from the tortoise burrow spoil piles and undisturbed surface soil less than a meter away at two different desert tortoise study sites with bighorn sheep, the second site (Deep Canyon) in the Santa Rosa Mountains near Palm Desert, California. Both study sites are located in the Sonoran Desert ecosystem...

Scientists from the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center investigated the sedimentary and geochemical properties of the lower reaches of the Pearl River in eastern Louisiana by collecting estuarine, riverine and marsh sediments. This was done in order to increase understanding of the region's environmental history, quantify the deposition associated with Hurricane Katrina, identify the subsequent changes in the deposited sediments and assess the effects of this deposition on marsh sustainability. To this end, the group obtained long sediment cores, shovel-dug sediment slabs and marsh and riverine channel/estuarine surface samples from a north-south transect along the river...
