This map shows the subcrop pattern of the Mesozoic rock units present at the top Mesozoic unconformity (also commonly referred to as the base Tertiary unconformity) in Cook Inlet basin, Alaska. The subcrop is projected onto the top Mesozoic unconformity depth surface of Cook Inlet basin, Alaska, published by Shellenbaum and others (2010). Publicly available geologic and geophysical data from multiple sources were collected, interpreted, and integrated into the subcrop map. Formation picks at the top Mesozoic unconformity were determined for 109 wells. Mesozoic horizons from two regional marine two-dimensional (2-D) seismic datasets (approximately 3,300 miles) were interpreted. Eight map units were established for...

The Cenozoic Holitna basin is a gravity-defined feature that sits astride the Denali-Farewell fault zone in southwestern Alaska. The basin corresponds to a gravity low in excess of -40 milligals (mGals). No outcrops exist within the footprint of the gravity low and no subsurface data are available; consequently, the stratigraphy and age of its fill are unknown. The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) investigated the shallow gas potential of the basin during the summers of 2000 and 2002 by studying Tertiary coal-bearing rocks exposed along the Denali-Farewell fault zone to the northeast of the basin in the southern McGrath Quadrangle as an outcrop analog to the subsurface stratigraphy of the...

This publication provides mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data for 36 outcrop samples collected from the Kaguyak, Naknek, and West Foreland formations in the Iniskin Peninsula region of Cook Inlet. The publication files provide: sample names, coordinates, and the formation from which samples were collected; per-sample pore aperture size distribution charts; formation pore volume graphs and data; pore system properties of each formation from which samples were analyzed; and correspondence from PetroTech Associates describing the methods used in MICP analyses of the samples, and a brief summary of the data

This Raw Data File provides lithologic descriptions of core fragments recovered from a series of core holes drilled by Exxon (mid-80s) in the uplands bordering the Yukon Flats basin. In addition to descriptions of the material, the tabulated file includes geographic location, core hole numbers, an age estimate, core fragment depth, general lithology, grain size, and facies interpretation. The author examined these core materials in Fairbanks during winter and spring 2002. This work was done in preparation for an assessment carried out by the U.S. Geological Survey of undiscovered, technically recoverable hydrocarbon resources in the Yukon Flats basin.
