8.27 - updated with feedback from Mike J. ------------------------------------------------------- The National Hydrologic Geospatial Fabric Reference and Derived Hydrofabrics is a geospatial dataset used for hydrologic modeling, containing a network of connected rivers, lakes, and catchments. It consists of four different network representations: Reference Fabric, Refactored Fabric, target-size Hydrofabric, and Point of Interest (POI) Aggregated Hydrofabric. Each representation is designed to meet specific modeling needs by providing different levels of consolidation and aggregation of the hydrographic features. The dataset includes features and attributes representing hydrologic locations associated with observational...

Information about streamflow and streamflow variability is critical to assist natural resource managers when they make decisions related to the water needs of both human communities and ecosystems. In order for managers to effectively plan for and adapt to future climate and land cover conditions, they require information on changes that could occur in the distribution and quantity of water resources. Yet every watershed has a unique set of characteristics – such as differing topographies and geology – that affect how much water is available, the sources of water, and how it flows through the system. This means that water availability in every watershed can be affected differently by changes in climate and land...

This landuse / landcover (LULC) map displays a basic depiction of the Los Planes watershed in Baja California Sur, Mexico. This simplified, 7-class LULC map displays classes that are useful for hydrologic modeling and broad vegetation mapping in the region. It was created from analysis of six Sentinel-2 satellite images and other existing geospatial datasets. These satellite images are provided at 10-meter spatial resolution and were calibrated for topographic illumination effects to enhance its accuracy in rugged, mountainous terrain like that seen in the watershed. A novel filtering methodology was also applied to minimize the "salt-and-pepper effect" from the principle component analysis (PCA) and image classification...
