Airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data were acquired November 2018 to February 2019 along 16,816 line-kilometers (line-km) over the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP). Data were acquired by CGG Canada Services, Ltd. with three different helicopter-borne sensors: the CGG Canada Services, Ltd. Resolve frequency-domain AEM instrument that is used to map subsurface geologic structure at depths up to 100 meters, depending on the subsurface resistivity; a Scintrex CS-3 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (hundreds of meters to kilometers) geologic structure based on variations in the magnetic properties of different formations; and a Radiation Solutions RS-500 spectrometer that...

The Aquatic and Riparian Effectiveness Monitoring Plan (AREMP) characterizes the ecological condition of watersheds and aquatic ecosystems to answer the core question: “Are the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) and the BLM Western Oregon Resource Management Plans maintaining and restoring the conditions of aquatic and riparian ecosystems on federal lands in the Forest Plan area?” AREMP determines the status and trend of inchannel and upslope-riparian watershed condition for sixth-field watersheds (HUC12) within the NWFP area. Upslope and riparian condition are based on mapped data (e.g. road density, vegetation) for all watersheds with ≥5% federal ownership. Inchannel condition is based on stream data (e.g. substrate,...

This data release contains information on computed tomography (CT) images of a vibracore that was collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in 2019. A site next to the San Lorenzo River in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, California, was cored to understand the history of recent vertical incision and floodplain abandonment. The core was split into 3 segments after collection. Each segment was scanned using a Geotek Rotating X-ray CT (RXCT) System and CT reconstruction was performed using Geotek reconstruction software. Geotek CT_Quickview software was used to select a representative down-core orthogonal slice from each core segment and the Geotek AddRuler software was used to display core-lengths in each image. The...

Surface electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), time-domain electromagnetics (TEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), magnetics, and gravity data were acquired in 2016, 2017 and 2018 in the greater East River Watershed near Crested Butte Colorado with a focused effort in Redwell Basin. Five ERT profiles were acquired within Redwell Basin and Brush Creek to map geologic structure at depths up to 40 meters, depending on the subsurface resistivity, using the Advanced Geosciences, Inc. SuperSting R8 resistivity meter. Approximately ten kilometers of total field magnetics data were acquired with a Geometrics G-858 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (tens of meters to kilometers) geologic structure...

The supplemental data presented here contain shapefiles of the hydrographic area, regions, groundwater evapotranspiration areas, and select watersheds in Harney Basin used in the hydrologic budget of the Harney Basin groundwater system, 1982-2016 report.
This dataset contains manually developed 5-, 10-, and 500-ft contours for the Harney Basin, Oregon aquifer system shallow and deep potentiometric-surface maps. The potentiometric-surfaces show altitude at the water-table surface (shallow) and at which the water level would have risen in tightly-cased wells deeper than 100 ft (deep) and generally represents synoptic conditions during February–March of 2018. The water-table map was developed using groundwater-level measurements from shallow wells (generally less than 100 ft deep in the lowlands) and the altitudes of springs and gaining stream reaches and constrained by the altitude of the land surface. The deeper potentiometric-surface map was developed using measurements...

This dataset is the result of measurements of groundwater levels in the Equus Beds aquifer near Wichita, Kansas, in January 2016. Potentiometric surfaces are interpolated for the shallow and deep parts of the aquifer, and rasters of the potentiometric surfaces are included in this data release. Wells were classified as being screened in the shallow or deep parts of the aquifer based on station name (some wells have a layer identifier in the station name) or, if no indication of aquifer layer was given in the station name, based on the depth of the well; wells with depths less than 80 feet below land surface were classified as shallow and wells with depths of 80 feet or deeper were classified as deep. Contours with...

This data release contains tabular data (comma-separated-value files) of natural radiogenic isotopes of strontium, uranium, and thorium for samples of modern water, speleothems, associated with Fitton Cave, north central Arkansas, as well as rock that host the cave deposits. In addition, U-series ages (230Th/U dates and model 234U/238U dates) are calculated from those data for subsamples of speleothems. Stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon are reported for a subset of the stalagmite samples. Sample locations and descriptions as well as specific sub-sample imagery and narrative explanations are included as information supporting the analyses. Selected results are depicted as data plots in an accompanying Excel spreadsheet...

Topography provides information about the structural controls of the Great Basin and therefore information that may be used to identify favorable structural settings for geothermal systems. Specifically, local relative topography gives information about locations of faults and fault intersections relative to mountains, valleys, or at the transitions between. As part of U.S. Geological Survey efforts to engineer features that are useful for predicting geothermal resources, we construct a detrended elevation map that emphasizes local relative topography and highlights features that geologists use for identifying geothermal systems (i.e., providing machine learning algorithms with features that may improve predictive...

Aquifer testing was conducted in the Paradox Valley alluvial aquifer in Montrose County, Colorado, including short-term (slug tests) and long-term (pumping tests) stresses on the hydrologic system to determine hydraulic properties of the aquifer. Slug tests were conducted at four wells in March 2013, with only one well producing data that could be interpreted using analytical solutions. In the other three slug tests, water-level displacement was not instantaneous and displayed substantial noise meaning that the analytical solutions could not be applied. Pumping tests were conducted in March through June of 2013 by initiation of pumping at seven production wells screened in the aquifer and observation of water-level...
This data release combines seven airborne thermal infrared (TIR) remote sensing data sets of stream temperature collected along the mainstem of the Middle Fork John Day River (MFJD) in Oregon from 1994 to 2003. Years 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2002 have single datasets. Year 2003 has two data sets. Most of the TIR data covered the upstream half of the MFJD mainstem between river km 50 and 110, while the 2002 profile covers the lower half starting at the confluence of the MFJD with the North Fork John Day River through river kilometer 64. All TIR data sets were collected by helicopter in an upstream direction in August with the intent of capturing data at or near the maximum summer daily stream temperature. Ground-truthing...

The Upper Delaware River is a unique example of an aquatic system where summer river temperature is actively managed for ecological purposes. River temperature at the mainstem Delaware River at Lordville, NY gage (USGS 01427207) is targeted to remain below 25°C, with warm events potentially mitigated via directed upstream reservoir releases, a process guided by predictive tools. These directed releases currently occur at the Cannonsville Dam on the West Branch, though the temperature criteria at the Lordville gage is also influenced by releases from the Pepacton Dam on the east branch. To increase the spatial resolution of summer river temperature data available for understanding river temperature processes and...
The shapefiles depict the valley bottom areas over which HEC-RAS model results were summarized. Valley bottoms were manually delineated in ArcMap by visually interpreting LIDAR terrain models and aerial imagery. Substantial changes in elevation, curvature, and slope were interpreted within the context of their position within the study reach to be channel banks and valley walls. Such areas were excluded from the valley bottom delineation.

This dataset contains cross-sectionally averaged flow metrics from measurements made with acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP) on the Missouri River near Wolf Point, MT during 2018 and 2019. Each data point represents a single-pass measurement with a boat-mounted ADCP driven from bank-to-bank along lateral transects spaced ~15 meters apart along a 33 kilometer reach. The measurements were collected as part of a bathymetric survey in which two USGS survey boats were each mounted with an ADCP and single beam echosounder that were deployed simultaneously. Cross-sectionally averaged flow metrics such as velocity, depth, and temperature along with the total measured discharge and starting coordinate of the measurement...
