Low-altitude (80-100 meters above ground level) digital images were obtained from a camera mounted on a 3DR Solo quadcopter, a small unmanned aerial system (UAS), in three locations along the Lake Ontario shoreline in New York during July 2017. These data were collected to document and monitor effects of high lake levels, including shoreline erosion, inundation, and property damage in the vicinity of Chimney Bluffs State Park, New York. This data release includes images tagged with locations determined from the UAS GPS; tables with updated estimates of camera positions and attitudes based on the photogrammetric reconstruction; tables listing locations of the base stations, ground control points, and transect points;...

Static flood inundation boundary extents were created along the entire shoreline of Lake Ontario in Cayuga, Jefferson, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, and Wayne Counties in New York by using recently acquired (2007, 2010, 2014, and 2017) light detection and ranging (lidar) data. The flood inundation maps, accessible through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Program website at https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water-resources/science/flood-inundation-mapping-fim-program, depict estimates of the areal extent and water depth of shoreline flooding in 8 segments corresponding to adjacent water-surface elevations (stages) at 8 USGS lake gages on Lake Ontario. This item includes data sets for segment D - Lake Ontario...

Inferences about ecological structure and function are often made using elemental or macromolecular tracers of food web structure. For example, inferences about food chain length are often made using stable isotope ratios of top predators and consumer food sources are often inferred from both stable isotopes and fatty acid (FA) content in consumer tissues. The use of FAs as tracers implies some degree of macromolecular conservation across trophic interactions, but many FAs are critically important for particular physiological functions and animals may selectively retain or extract these critical FAs from food resources. Here, we compared spatial variation in two taxa that feed on the same (or similar) food resources...

This data release provides water chemistry results and quality assurance data for samples collected from Great Lakes tributaries in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and New York. In total, 158 chemicals were analyzed which are primarily pharmaceuticals. Between one and four water samples were collected at 37 sampling locations between November 2017 and July 2018 resulting in a total of 87 environmental, 95 field replicate, and 15 field blank samples. Of the 158 chemicals analyzed, 23 chemicals were detected in at least one regular sample. Detections per site ranged from 0 to 12 chemicals at concentrations of 1.56 to 30900 nanograms per liter. Sample collection and analysis was performed...

This data release includes early life stage data for Lake Ontario fishes including egg deposition, larval fish emergence from varied substrates and depths, and horizontal larval fish tow surveys conducted across various habitats. Tables include data from multiple field surveys and lab studies from 2018, 2019, and 2021. Larval tow observations from 2018 are from lake wide sampling in Lake Ontario while egg and larval emergence data are from embayments in U.S. waters of Lake Ontario in 2019 and 2021. Laboratory experiments on egg collection gear were conducted in 2019. Details about the vessel and gear descriptions, sampling protocols, and catch processing protocols are provided in the associated metadata.
