Wind power forecasting is becoming an important tool in electricity markets as the amount of wind power rapidly increases. However, the use of wind power forecasting in market operations and among market participants is still at an early stage. We discuss the current use of wind power forecasting in U.S. ISO/RTO markets, and give recommendations for how to make efficient use of the information in state-of-the-art wind power forecasts.
Electric and magnetic fields were measured during the summer of 1998 in south-central Ontario within the business district of 60 communities, ranging in size from 1000 to 2.3 million people. The mean magnetic flux density for the 60 communities was 5.8 mG. Communities with larger populations generally had higher magnetic flux densities than those with smaller populations.Communities with populations above 100 000, between 50 000 and 100 000, between 10 000 and 50 000, and less than 10 000 had mean magnetic flux densities of 14, 7, 4 and 2.4 mG, respectively. This article provides a comprehensive and succinct review of the essentials needed to deal with the disputes encountered in the international energy sector. It begins with explaining the reasons why this sector has more disputes than any other business sector and then discusses how parties can effectively manage that risk. ABSTRACT: To help meet national energy demands, interest has been focused on the coal, oil shale, and uranium deposits of the Upper Colorado River Basin. Several energy output projections for the basin have been presented based upon water availability. Inherent in all these analyses are estimates as to the rate of water use in each energy development. New energy technologies are characterized by parameters extrapolated from small scale energy facilities. The data provide projected costs, conversion efficiencies, and material inputs and outputs. Controversy has surrounded the development of windfarms since they started to appear in England and Wales in 1991, and the issues have received considerable media attention. The conflict has taken place within the planning system, site by site. Closer examination suggests that the wind power controversy is a result of the inadequate integration of both the two main bodies of public policy which bear upon the topic: energy policy and land use planning policy. Wind power is being developed within the culture of energy policy with its supply-side bias and its capacity to allow for rapid technological change which is counter to the protective and regulatory approach of planning policy for the upland areas chiefly affected....

Conclusions:The effects of adjacent land-use on wetland sediment and water quality can extend over comparatively large distances. As such, sustaining high wetland water quality will not be achieved merely through the creation of narrow buffer zones between wetlands and more intensive land-uses, but rather by maintaining a heterogeneous regional landscape containing relatively large areas of natural forest and wetlands.Thresholds/Learnings:Water nitrogen and phosphorous levels were negatively correlated with forest cover at 2250m from the wetland edge.
