Persistence of subalpine forest--meadow ecotones in the Gunnison Basin, Colorado

Forests of the southern Rocky Mountains are punctuated by persistent meadows called parks that are dominated by grasses and forbs. In an attempt to elucidate the maintenance of subalpine parks in the Gunnison Basin, Colorado, soil texture and tree morphology differences along 60-m transects spanning the forest-park ecotone were studied in 6 representative parks. Seedling survivorship, percent seed germination, and soil moisture available to plants were also studied along one of the transects in Willow Park. Remote Sensing Sagebrush Habitat Quantification Products for Wyoming (shrub height)

Sagebrush ecosystems in North America have experienced extensive degradation since European settlement, and continue to further degrade from exotic invasive plants, greater fire frequency, intensive grazing practices, increased oil and gas development, climate change, and other factors. Remote sensing is often identified as a key information source to facilitate broad-area ecosystem-wide characterization, monitoring and analysis, however, approaches that characterize sagebrush with sufficient and accurate local detail across large areas to support ecosystem research and analysis are unavailable. Coral Reef Evaluation and Monitoring Project Florida Keys 1998

The purpose of the Coral Reef Evaluation and Monitoring Project (CREMP) is to monitor the status and trends of selected reefs in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary(FKNMS). CREMP assessments have been conducted annually at fixed sites since 1996 and data collected provides information on the temporal changes in benthic cover and diversity of stony corals and associated marine flora and fauna. The core field methods continue to be underwater videography and timed coral species inventories.
