These tables serve as input data for hierarchical models investigating interactions between raven density and Greater Sage-grouse nest success. Observations were recorded over an 11 year time period, spanning from 2009 through 2019. The model is run in JAGS via R, the code is publicly available via the U.S. Geological Survey's GitLab (O'Neil et al. 2023). We recommend not making any changes or edits to the tables unless the user is experienced with hierarchical modeling. This collection of files contains temperature data files (.ttd files) downloaded directly from Tiny Tag devices, as well exported temperature data as .csv files for each nest monitored with Tiny Tags by year. File names include Tiny Tag number, site, year, and nest ID..ttd files can be viewed using Tinytag Explorer. Note, however, that the times displayed by Tinytag Explorer are calculated when the data is displayed and depend on the daylight saving settings of the PC at that time. For example, if a .ttd file is opened before and after DST settings change, then all times displayed by Tinytag Explorer will go forward or back. All .csv files were exported using the Tinytag Explorer during the same daylight savings...

Arthropod counts (predators, herbivores, etc) and counts of entrapped arthropod corpses on focal plants in an experiment manipulating arthropod carrion amount and plant damage. Quantifications of plant damage and reproduction are presented. A duplicate digital object identifier (DOI) (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7M044NW) was accidentally published for this resource. This file contains information on avian nests found during this study including species, date and time found, location, status, estimated incubation dates, tiny tag and camera monitoring and retrieval information, and nest fate. Note, that .ttd files viewed using Tinytag Explorer may have assessment times that are off by an hour, as the times displayed by Tinytag Explorer are calculated when the data is displayed and depend on the daylight saving settings of the PC at that time. For example, if a .ttd file is opened before and after DST settings change, then all times displayed by Tinytag Explorer will go forward or back. Also, in 2019 camera date and times were not set correctly prior to deployment. See fields...

Rasters representing median raven density estimates, calculated from approximately 28,000 raven point count surveys conducted between 2009 and 2019. Estimates were the result of a Bayesian hierarchical distance sampling model, using environmental covariates on detection and abundance.
This file includes R code to select annual sampling units for nest survival analysis on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge using a stratified random sampling approach. We used the Generalized Random Tessellation Stratified (GRTS) procedure (Stevens and Olsen 2004) to obtain a spatially balanced sample of 28 plots in 2019 and 48 in 2022 within two of the four strata. In 2019, plots were equally allocated between wetland and moist strata, with 14 plots allocated to each. In 2022, additional plots were allocated to the moist stratum given the proportional availability on the landscape, with the final allocation being 30 moist plots and 18 wetland plots. We also selected an additional 20 “oversample” plots in each...

Collection of video files taken of avian nests by Plotwatcher Pro–Time Lapse cameras during field work conducted on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Photos are organized in folders by year. Naming convention for each photo includes nest ID and camera number. Within each NestID folder are a series of TLV files saved directly from cameras. TLV files can be saved as an AVI file to view in Windows. Note, in 2019 camera date and times were not set correctly prior to deployment. See ‘ANWR nest survival nest data’ for date and time as set on the camera at time of deployment. The data providers have invested considerable effort in QA/QC, but it is possible that undetected errors remain. It is strongly recommended that...

We combined approximately 28,000 raven point count surveys with data from more than 900 sage-grouse nests between 2009 and 2019 within the Great Basin, USA. We modeled variation in raven density using a Bayesian hierarchical distance sampling approach with environmental covariates on detection and abundance. Concurrently, we modeled sage-grouse nest survival using a hierarchical frailty model as a function of raven density as well as other environmental covariates that influence risk of failure. Raven density commonly exceeded more than 0.5 ravens per square kilometer and increased at low relative elevations with prevalent anthropogenic development and/or agriculture. Reduced sage-grouse nest survival was strongly...

Reproductive success is a key demographic parameter that can have profound impacts on a species’ population trend; however, broad-scale nest survival data are unavailable for all Arctic-breeding shorebird species. Accordingly, we set out to 1) measure current nest survival rates across a large area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and 2) identify predators of nests, so as to help elucidate the potential role reproductive failure plays in current shorebird population declines. This information is also relevant for assessing the indirect effects of land management decisions such as oil and gas development on a species’ reproductive success. In 2019 and 2022, we monitored 129 shorebird nests of 9 species using...
