In October 2016, we acquired an approximately 15-km-long seismic profile along a linear transect across the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area. Our goal was to image previously unknown strands of the Hayward Fault zone and to better delineate the structure and geometry of the main trace of the Hayward Fault. Our profile started near the southern border of San Leandro, California at the San Francisco Bay shoreline, trended ENE through the northern edge of Castro Valley, California, and ended approximately 5 km WSW of San Ramon, California. The data were analyzed using refraction tomography modeling, reflection processing, and guided-wave analysis. The analyzed data are presented in separate reports by...

These data are a series of telecommunications voice and data restoration percentages for 17 counties affected by the HayWired earthquake scenario, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. These data for telecommunications demand served are derived from residual network capacity based on potential hazard information (for example, ground shaking and liquefaction), assumptions about dependence on electric power restoration, and assumptions about network congestion caused by demand surge. Various resilience cases pertain to assumptions about the presence of backup power (for example, batteries or generators), ability to truck in fuel and...

These data are a geospatial representation of potential moderate or high ground shaking intensity for seven M5 or greater aftershocks resulting from the HayWired earthquake scenario, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. These data take existing ground shaking data for the HayWired mainshock and seven aftershocks (M6.21 Palo Alto, M5.69 Palo Alto, M5.22 Palo Alto, M5.26 Palo Alto, M5.98 Mountain View, M6.40 Cupertino, and M5.35 Sunnyvale) and combine them into a single ground shaking intensity surface intended for estimating possible repeat exposure to moderate or high intensity ground shaking. This vector .SHP dataset was developed...

These data are a geospatial representation of potential damage resulting from fires following the HayWired earthquake scenario, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. These data take information about prevailing conditions (for example, average wind speed and direction) and potential hazard information (for example, ground shaking and liquefaction) and model the resulting fire-based damages which could occur following the HayWired scenario mainshock. The results are presented as a series of Voronoi polygons centered on known fire stations in the region. This vector .SHP dataset was developed and intended for use in GIS applications...

From late December 2022 to January 2023, a series of atmospheric river storms produced widespread landsliding in the San Francisco Bay area of California. USGS scientists performed reconnaissance field work to document the extent of landsliding in the region and compiled reports of landslides from media and California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports. This data release documents locations of road cut and shallow hillslope landslides triggered between December 31, 2022 and January 18, 2023. This inventory is not intended to be a complete inventory, but a reporting of observations made with limited time and resources. The point locations include descriptions and associated attributes, described in the metadata. Media...

This dataset represents the spatial locations of all modeled aftershocks magnitude 2.5 and greater resulting from the HayWired M7.0 mainshock occurring on April 18, 2018 along the Hayward Fault. The date/time, horizontal and vertical location, and sequence position is provided for each aftershock. The spatial extent covers 24 counties in whole or in part, corresponding to the modeled shaking extent for the HayWired mainshock ShakeMap (available at https://earthquake.usgs.gov/scenarios/eventpage/ushaywiredm7.05_se#shakemap). The sequence is simulated based on several known statistical relationships and generated using an epidemic type aftershock sequence (ETAS) model, resulting in one possible aftershock sequence....

These data are a geospatial representation of potential multi-hazard exposure intensity for the HayWired earthquake scenario mainshock, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. These data take existing mainshock hazard data (surface offset, ground shaking, landslide, liquefaction, and fire following earthquake) and combine them into a single multi-hazard intensity surface intended for estimating the extent of potential exposure to these hazards. This vector .SHP dataset was developed and intended for use in GIS applications such as ESRI's ArcGIS software suite. These data support the following publication: Jones, J.L., Wein, A.M.,...

The Simplified Site Characterization Method (SSCM) was employed to obtain VS30 data at 39 sites across California. These geophysical surveys utilized both active- and passive-source methods wherever site conditions allowed. Primary focus was on characterization of seismic stations. Major regions surveyed include the San Francisco Bay Area, Anza Valley, Imperial Valley, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara. Also characterized were 4 PG&E dams. Active-source methods were designed for Rayleigh-wave MASW analysis, while passive-source methods were designed for use with ESAC analysis approach. Also included in this data release are data sets for geophysical surveys of five seismic stations done by standard approach surface-wave...
These data are an expanded geospatial representation of liquefaction probability for the HayWired earthquake scenario, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. These data supplement the liquefaction probability analysis completed by Jones and others (2017) for the earthquake hazards volume of the HayWired earthquake scenario, which was the product of an analysis that created a detailed liquefaction probability map covering the northern Santa Clara County and western Alameda County areas. This expanded liquefaction probability dataset makes use of FEMA's Hazus-MH 2.1 loss-estimation software and liquefaction susceptibility data by Knudsen...
