This Scientific Data Release is a spatial geodatabase representation of Braun, D. D., 1996, Surficial geology of the Allentown 30x60-minute quadrangle: Pennsylvania Geological Survey, 4th ser., Open-File Report 96–48, 17 p., 1 map, scale 1:100,000. These geospatial data depict surficial geologic materials in the Pennsylvania portion of the Allentown 30 x 60-minute quadrangle in eastern Pennsylvania. The map area shows the effects of at least three Pleistocene glacial advances. The report map is a compilation and revision of published and unpublished, 1:24,000-scale, detailed-reconnaissance maps. Types of surficial geologic units include 14 anthropogenic, 8 alluvial or wetland, 16 colluvial, and 12 Wisconsinan, Illinoian,...

The karstic Edwards and Trinity aquifers are classified as major sources of water in south-central Texas by the Texas Water Development Board, and both are classified as major aquifers by the State of Texas. The Edwards and Trinity aquifers developed because of the original depositional history of the carbonate limestone and dolomite rocks that contain them, and the primary and secondary porosity, diagenesis, fracturing, and faulting that modified the porosity, permeability, and transmissivity of each aquifer and of the geologic units separating the aquifers. Previous studies such as those by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) have mapped the geology, hydrostratigraphy, and...
This Scientific Data Release is a spatial geodatabase representation of a compilation of Cadwell, D.H., Connally, G.G., Fleisher, P.J., Muller, E.H., 1988, Surficial geologic map of New York; Niagara sheet: New York State Museum Map and Chart Series 40, scale 1:250,000, 5 sheets., Muller, E.H., Cadwell, D.H., Connally, G.G., Young, R.A., 1986, Surficial geologic map of New York; Finger Lakes sheet: New York State Museum Map and Chart Series 40, scale 1:250,000, 5 sheets., Cadwell, D.H., et al., 1991, Surficial geologic map of New York; Adirondack sheet: New York State Museum Map and Chart Series 40, scale 1:250,000, 5 sheets., Cadwell, D.H., Dineen, R.J., Connally, G.G., Fleisher, P.J., and Rich, J.L., 1987, Surficial...

This data release supports the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigation Map (SIM) by Clark and others (2020) by documenting the data used to create the geologic maps and describes the geologic framework and hydrostratigraphy of the Edwards and Trinity aquifers for a 442 square-mile area in northern Medina County in south Texas. The karstic Edwards and Trinity aquifers that are the subject of the SIM by Clark and others (2020) are classified as major sources of water in south-central Texas by the Texas Water Development Board (George and others, 2011). The geologic framework and hydrostratigraphy of the Edwards and Trinity aquifers largely control groundwater flow paths and storage in northern Medina County...
Geologic, sediment texture, and physiographic zone maps characterize the sea floor south and west of Martha's Vineyard and north of Nantucket, Massachusetts. These maps were derived from interpretations of seismic-reflection profiles, high-resolution bathymetry, acoustic-backscatter intensity, bottom photographs, and surficial sediment samples. The interpretation of the seismic stratigraphy and mapping of glacial and Holocene marine units provided a foundation on which the surficial maps were created. This mapping is a result of a collaborative effort between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management to characterize the surface and subsurface geologic framework offshore of...

This dataset presents descriptions of sediments collected from a boring drilled to bedrock near Nantucket Sound in East Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. There are four types of descriptions—units, features, subsamples, and grain-size distributions: 1) Units correspond to “lithostratigraphic units” described by Hull and others (2019). Units are vertically continuous zones of generally similar sediment type. They range from 1 to 100 feet thick. The top and bottom of each unit is given in feet relative to depth below land surface. 2) Features are described as “lithostratigraphic features” by Hull and others (2019). Features are discrete zones of very similar sediment 0.1 to 5.0 feet thick. A single unit can encompass...
