A polygon dataset of current road footprints in the SNK REA derived from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources infrastructure data (see the process steps for details). (This data depicts infrastructure locations in Alaska as digitized primarily from 1:24,000, 1:63,360, and 1:250,000 USGS quadrangles. The source document that represented the newest information and best geographic location was used to capture the data. All infrastructure from the primary source document was digitized and then supplemented with the information from other source documents for additional or updated infrastructure or attributes.)
This data depicts random points generated within ESRI modelbuilder. The methodology to generate these points is documented within the Current Subsistence toolbox, model: YKL_DV_B_C_Subsistence_Step1_RiverSegments.
Linear feature data from BLM
A line dataset of current (abandoned) and future railroads in the SNK REA - derived from the Alaska Infrastructure 1:63,360 line data set with modifications (see the process steps for details). This data depicts infrastructure locations in Alaska as digitized primarily from 1:24,000, 1:63,360, and 1:250,000 USGS quadrangles. The source document that represented the newest information and best geographic location was used to capture the data. Derived data layer based upon the BLM supplied roads data layer. The layer represents the density in a 1km2 area of the the category 2 roads and is used to model invasive annual grasses and noxious forbs and species assembleages.

The majority of the transportation infrastructure is related to oil industry activities. Other community transportation infrastructure – existing and planned – is small in comparison to the oil industry’s activities, as well as small in comparison to other U.S. communities. The transportation network in the region includes airstrips, few paved or gravel roads within communities, and a network of trails to subsistence use areas and those that connect communities. Although future roads are included in the long-term LCM, we conducted separate spatial analyses intersecting the future layers with our fish distributions to identify the projects or watersheds with the potential to impact fish species of conservation concern. Four datasets were used to represent future road construction in the study area: preferred routes to Nome, Umiat, and Ambler; and proposed forestry roads. Road features were identified using TIGER line data and those features mapped as freeways, secondary roads and local roads were selected. A moving window analysis was applied, which used a window area of 640 acres to determine the miles of road per 640 acres. Output from the analysis was scored where road density values less than 3 miles/640acres were scored as a 3 (“preferred”) and road density values greater than 3 miles/640acres received a score of 1 (“lower quality”).
Agriculture and Urban land uses were extracted from Landfire VCC and urban areas were mosaiced with TIGER roads to determine the percentage of those land uses with the riparian corridor.

Linear feature data from BLM
This dataset represents roads in the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (with a 50km buffer). Developed with the most recently available data and represents roads in ~2016. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale.
