This shapefile contains sub-indices comprised of various anthropogenic land use/covers respresentative of the risk of potential habitat degradation to streams within the state of Hawaii. This file is an updated version of 'nfhap_hci_hawaii.shp' and incorporates the suggestion from the Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership of removing trails and paths from the road network to help better represent amounts of disturbance in remote areas such as the Na Pali coast. Subindices are summarized for local and network catchments specific to perennial stream reaches throughout the state. The local and network catchments were developed using a modified version of the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) as a baselayer....
In 2015, the second of several Regional Stream Quality Assessments (RSQA) was done in the southeastern United States. The Southeast Stream Quality Assessment (SESQA) was a study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project. One of the objectives of the RSQA, and thus the SESQA, is to characterize the relationships between water-quality stressors and stream ecology and subsequently determine the relative effects of these stressors on aquatic biota within the streams (Van Metre and Journey, 2014). To meet this objective, a framework of fundamental geospatial data was required to develop physical and anthropogenic characteristics of the study region, sampled sites and corresponding...
This shapefile contains landscape factors representing potential human disturbances to river systems summarized in 12-digit USGS hydrological units (HUC12s) for the state of Alaska. Variables include land uses, barriers to fish movement, landing strips/airports, mines, point-source pollutant sites, and infrastructure like pipelines, railroads, and roads. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to HUC12s were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire state of Alaska in the way that they were assembled; (3) representative of conditions from 2000 to 2010; and (4) of sufficient spatial resolution that they could be used to make valid comparisons among...

This dataset uses (1) fundamental drainage areas (FDA, NRCAN 2003) and (2) Hydrologic Units 8-digits (HUC8, USGS 2014). The boundaries of the FDAs and HUC8s have been modified to follow the boundaries of the catchments in the NWB LCC Catchments Version 1.0 dataset (BEACONs 2015). REFERENCES BEACONs. 2015. This shapefile contains landscape factors representing potential human disturbances to river systems summarized in 12-digit USGS hydrological units (HUC12s) for the Matanuska Susitna Basin Salmon Habitat Partnership. This dataset is the result of clipping the shapefile for 'National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP) 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for Alaska linked to HUC12s' to the boundary of the Matanuska Susitna Basin Salmon Habitat Partnership. Variables include land uses, barriers to fish movement, landing strips/airports, mines, point-source pollutant sites, and infrastructure like pipelines, railroads, and roads. Urban development alters stormflow characteristics and is associated with increasing flood risks. The long-term evaluation of stormflow characteristics that exacerbate floods, such as peak stormflow and time-to-peak stormflow at varying levels of urbanization across different hydroclimates, is limited. This study investigated the long-term (1980s to 2010s) effects of increasing urbanization on key stormflow characteristics using observed 15 min streamflow data across six broad hydroclimate representative urban watersheds in the conterminous United States. The results indicate upward trends in peak stormflow and downward trends in time-to-peak stormflow at four out of six watersheds. The watershed in the Great Plains...

A major component of the Water Census is the National Water Census Data Platform, which enables integration and delivery of water budget information alongside other data of interest to managers, such as water use data or ecological assessment criteria. Eventually, end users of water budget data (i.e. management agencies and decision-makers) will be able to access an integrated system of online databases in a form that will enable them to construct local and regional water budgets.

The overall goal of this project has been the development of forest health and sensitivity indicators and “1st-generation” maps of potential sensitivity to disturbance for lands within watersheds of the NYC water supply in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The methodologies and data layers created in this effort can now be used to aid management decisions and help determine the extent and magnitude of terrestrial and aquatic responses to acidic deposition. The data products derived from this effort have been produced and documented in such a manner that stakeholders can now use these products for site evaluation as well as to perform more extensive analysis on the suite of readily available GIS and image-based...
The National Network of Reference Watersheds is a collaborative and multipurpose network of minimally disturbed watersheds and monitoring sites. The purpose of this website is to allow users to search the NNRW database of reference watersheds, to identify watersheds of interest, and download watershed information and water quality data. The current scope of the network is limited to freshwater streams. Membership in the network is voluntary and open to individuals, agencies, and institutions interested in participating in monitoring and (or) research in minimally disturbed and pristine watersheds. The NNRW defines reference watersheds as those minimally disturbed by human activity preferably in an area protected...
