This project used previously collected ShoreZone imagery to map nearly 1,600 km of coastline between Wales and Kotzebue. With additional mapping supported by the Arctic LCC and National Park Service, this effort completed the Kotzebue Sound shoreline, which now has been included in the state-wide ShoreZone dataset. The complete ShoreZone dataset for the region was used to conduct a coastal hazards analysis and create maps that identify areas undergoing rapid coastal erosion and areas that are sensitive to inundation by storm surge and sea level rise
This map was created by Arctic LCC staff and depicts the general boundaries of the Arctic LCC overlayed onto a satellite image. This map is in JPG format, suitable for presentations.

The Alaska Data Integration Working Group (ADIwg) Metadata Toolkit is an open source, suite of web applications for authoring and editing metadata for both spatial and non-spatial projects and datasets. The main goal of the toolkit is to promote the creation and use of metadata by lowering the level of technical expertise required to produce archival quality metadata.mdJSON is the metadata format ties the suite of tools together. The mdEditor is an open source client-side web application design to allow users to manage metadata for projects and data products. The mdEditor may be used to create mdJSON and interface with the mdTranslator to output metadata in multiple standards, including ISO 19115-2, 19115-1, 19110,...

This dataset depicts the terrestrial boundaries of the Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCC) within Alaska. Those LCCs are: Aleutian and Bering Sea Islands, Arctic, North Pacific, Northwest Boreal, and Western Alaska. These boundaries are derived from the master LCC Boundary dataset maintained by USFWS, but portions of these polygons have been modified. The specific modification are listed below: ARCTIC LCC: Portions of the polygon were edited to more closely match the coastline and the boundary was also edited to include the Colville River. WESTERN ALASKA LCC: Nulato Hills expansion: There are a number of reasons why the boundary of the Western Alaska LCC (WALCC) was modified to include the Nulato Hills Ecoregion....

Researchers from the University of Alaska (UAF), The NatureConservancy, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will use‘climate envelope’ models (i.e., models that infer a species’environmental requirements from locations where they arecurrently found) to explore how patterns in temperature, precipitation, and landcover (i.e., climate-biomes) may shift as aresult of changing climate.
The Terrestrial Environmental Observation Network (TEON) is an effort to establish a sustainable environmental observing network of northern Alaska. TEON will focus work in watersheds that collectively represent the diversity of landscape settings at the ecoregional scale, take advantage of existing science infrastructure and logistics capacity, and provide opportunities to build on existing long-term data sets. Candidate watersheds for TEON include Agashashok River, Barrow/Meade River, Fish/Judy Creek, Hulahula/Jago River, Kokolik River, Kuparuk River, and Upper Koyukuk River.

Alaska is an expansive state with abundant water resources. The complex landscape is defined by water and ice, but Alaska lacks quality mapping of its surface water features. The Alaska Hydrography Technical Working Group and Alaska Hydrography Database have worked to establish the Alaska Hydrography Strategic Plan to promote and guide a core mission to efficiently serve the current and future hydrography needs of Alaska for the next five years. This work will update the state’s hydrography in the National Hydrography Database from its current condition to meet national 1:24,000-scale standards. This work has focused on coordination of hydrography needs with partners and land managers, planning for the future hydrography...
