Airborne geophysical surveys were conducted in the eastern Adirondacks from Dec. 7, 2015 - Dec. 21, 2015, by Goldak Airborne Surveys. The area was flown along a draped surface with a nominal survey height above ground of 200 meters. The flight line spacing was 250 meters for traverse lines and 2500 meters for control lines. Here we present downloadable magnetic and radiometric (gamma spectrometry) data from those surveys as image (Geotiff) and flight line data (csv format). Background The Eastern Adirondacks region was known for iron mining in the 1800's and 1900's but it also contains deposits of rare earth minerals. Rare earth minerals are used in advanced technology such as in cell phones, rechargeable batteries...

This data release provides access to a low-altitude aeromagnetic survey flown over a part of the Cascade Range of the US Pacific Northwest, approximately centered over the town of Cascade Locks, Oregon. The Cascade Locks magnetic survey encompasses two large stratovolcanoes of the Cascade Range: Mt. Hood (3426 m) in Oregon and Mt. Adams (3742 m) in Washington. Data were acquired between October 17, 2021, and February 26, 2022, by KBM Resources Group, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, working under contract to the U.S. Geological Survey. The survey is underlain by a diverse magnetic terrane, including Miocene flood basalts of the Columbia River Basalt Group and Tertiary to Quaternary volcanic and intrusive rocks of the...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have collaborated to acquire high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric data, over northern and western Nevada and eastern California, to support geologic and geophysical mapping and modeling that will assist geothermal and critical mineral studies. The surveys, referred to as GeoDAWN (Geoscience Data Acquisition for Western Nevada), span areas of major resource potential associated with the Walker Lane and western Great Basin. They were conducted under the USGS’s Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (EarthMRI), with support from the DOE’s Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO), and involved acquisition of aeroradiometric and aeromagnetic data...

This data release contains gridded aeromagnetic data from a dataset that merges two aeromagnetic surveys of northeastern California. Data from the Alturas and Burney surveys were gridded and merged to provide a continuous, detailed aeromagnetic dataset of the region. The merged dataset was then corrected for the inclination of the Earth's magnetic field (reduced to pole or rtp); match-filtering of the merged rtp gridded dataset provides three dipole-equivalent source layers at 0.85 km (shallow), 3.28 km (medium), and 16.4 (deep) km. Magnetization boundaries were calculated using the maximum horizontal gradient method on the match-filtered gridded data. Lastly, a magnetic field caused by magnetic terrain was calculated...

The text file in CSV (comma-separated values) format contains marine magnetic data from 291 cruises in the Northern Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea. These data originate from two sources: 266 cruises from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Marine Trackline Geophysical Database (GEODAS) -- https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/metadata/landing-page/bin/iso?id=gov.noaa.ngdc:G00129 -- and 25 cruises from USGS holdings, including Scheirer and others (2023). Magnetic records were assigned one of three codes for quality and usability: 0=good data, -1=good data, but magnetic anomalies cannot be recalculated because of missing total field values (three...

This shapefile contains total‐field marine magnetic data from eleven cruises of the USCGS ship Pioneer (OSS‐31) and one cruise from the USS Rehoboth (AGS‐50) in deep water off the west coast of the United States and southern British Columbia in 1955 and 1956. Magnetic anomalies are calculated with the latest definitive geomagnetic reference field (DGRF) included in the 12th Generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field model (Thébault and others, 2015). The marine magnetic data from these cruises were recovered from backup tapes that archived the work of Skaer and Hey in the late 1980s (Skaer, 1989). Fernandez and Hey (1991) merged these 1950s data with magnetic data from subsequent cruises. Raw data...

This data release includes the airborne magnetic survey data collected from the Iron Mountain-Menominee region of Michigan and Wisconsin. The Mineral Resources Program of the U.S. Geological Survey is tasked with understanding the nation's mineral resources. Precambrian rocks in the region are poorly mapped and understood. Detailed high-resolution airborne magnetic surveys, ground gravity surveys, and limited borehole data are being used to better understand the lithology and structure of both exposed and concealed Precambrian rocks. The primary goal of the airborne magnetic survey is to map lateral variations of magnetization that are related to differences in rock type.

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 1989 across the Idaho Batholith, Payette National Forest, Idaho, by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The primary focus is on geologic elements that relate to the Late Cretaceous Idaho batholith geometry and the development of the Yellow Pine mining district and Stibnite mining area. Twenty MT soundings along one 110-km long profile were acquired during the time period of July 19-27, 1989. This study was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey's Mineral Resources Program in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service.
