The informal Uteland Butte member of the Eocene Green River Formation in the Uinta Basin, Utah is one of the few examples of a continuous petroleum resource play in the world situated in a lacustrine sedimentary basin (Johnson and others, 2015; Birdwell and others, 2016). The Hawaiian-Emperor chain, the surface expression of the Hawaiian mantle plume which has been active for at least 81 Ma, is divided into the Emperor Seamounts (81-47 Ma), Northwest Hawaiian Ridge (NWHR, 47-6 Ma), and Hawaiian Islands (<6 Ma). Hawaiian volcanism evolves through four volcanic stages: alkalic preshield, tholeiitic shield (80-90% volcano volume), alkalic postshield (∼1%), and silica undersaturated rejuvenated (<0.1%). The Eocene Green River Formation in the Piceance Basin of Colorado contains some of the richest oil shale deposits in the world (Johnson and others, 2009; Birdwell and others, 2013). The datasets compiled here were collected with the purpose of refining our understanding of geochemical variability through the depositional history of Eocene Lake Uinta in Piceance Basin. The effects of salinity, water column stratification, and redox conditions were of particular interest. Petroleum source rocks deposited during Cenomanian – Turonian time (late Cretaceous) are major generators of continuous and conventional oil and gas resources in the Gulf of Mexico Basin. The Eagle Ford Shale is a particularly important petroleum system and represents a substantial fraction of total oil and gas production in the United States.
