Estimated Post-Emergence Period for Denning Polar Bears of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas

These data are estimates of den emergence date, den site departure dates, and duration at den sites as well as post-emergence observations for female polar bears sampled in the southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation 1985-2016 and the Chukchi Sea subpopulation 2008-2017. The data were used to better understand the importance of time spent at the den site post-emergence. Emergence dates and departure dates were determined using collar temperature sensor data.

Measurement Data of Polar Bears Captured in the Chukchi and Southern Beaufort Seas, 1981-2017

This dataset includes measures collected on polar bears captured in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, 1981-2017 by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Data collected include body length, body mass, axillary girth, skull width and tail lengths. Bears were also aged as described in the methods. For some bears, an adipose tissue sample was collected and percent lipid content was measured, percent body fat was measured via bioelectrical impedance analysis, and/or recent feeding behavior was assessed via gut palpitation or blood urea and creatinine levels, all of which are further described in the methods.

Mangrove forests: current and future distribution and abundance in the southeastern U.S.

This dataset consists of the current distribution (2000s) of mangrove forests in the southeastern U.S. This dataset was created from the current best available mangrove data on a state specific basis. Florida mangrove data was extracted from Florida Landuse Land Cover Classification System (FLUCCS). For Louisiana, we used observations of mangrove stands from aerial surveys by Michot et al. (2010). Mangrove presence in Texas came from maps produced by Sherrod & McMillan (1981) and the NOAA Benthic Habitat Atlas of Coastal Texas (Finkbeiner et al. 2009). Enteroctopus Sampling Effects on Genetic Data, Prince William Sound, Alaska, 2012-2015

These are genetic data collected from replicated samples of 21 Enteroctopus (E. dofleini or a cryptic lineage) in Prince William Sound Alaska to evaluate tissue type, DNA extraction method, and time until analyses are completed on data reliability. Data collected from all samples include two microsatellites identified as possible lineage indicators, and nine microsatellite loci previously identified as polymorphic in both lineages. DNA sequence data from 528 bp of the octopine dehydrogenase (OCDE) gene were also collected.

An OPS staff will be hired to work with marine/coastal experts – to develop a Technical Advisory Group and gather data and input on the processes used in the marine assessment. Summary of Stranded Southern Sea Otters, 1985-2018 (ver. 3.0, June 2021)

The southern sea otter (Enhydra lutris nereis), also known as California sea otter, was listed as threatened in 1977 under the Endangered Species Act. Since 1985, stranded otters from throughout their California coastal range have been collected and analyzed to inform resource management on recovery and conservation of the species. Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment

The Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment (GCVA) used an expert opinion approach to qualitatively assess the vulnerability of four ecosystems: mangrove, oyster reef, tidal emergent marsh, and barrier islands, and a suite of wildlife species that depend on them.
