Field collections at more than 2900 sites and the examination of many museum collections and literature allowed me to map the historical and current distribution of several freshwater molluscan faunal groups in the Intermountain region of the United States (Great Basin, Colorado River drainage basin, and upper Snake River sub-basin). Historical and current records show that Margaritifera falcata, Anodonta californiensis, and Ferrissia rivularis have drainage-specific distributions, while Valvata utahensis has a specific drainage pattern, and V. californica (new combination) has a dispersed pattern. Shell morphometric data of Valvata and Ferrissia show extensive shell variation between and within populations. Current...

The Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Database (NAS) information resource is an established central repository for spatially referenced biogeographic accounts of introduced aquatic species. The NAS website provides scientific reports, online/real-time queries, spatial data sets, distribution maps, fact sheets, and general information.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected hydroacoustic data of the St. Croix River adjacent to the Osceola (WI) boat ramp for hydrographic and benthic mapping prior to the reconstruction project implemented by the National Park Service (NPS). This dataset contains predicted geologic substrate information that was interpreted from combined sonar datasets. The shapefile contains a general description of interpreted surficial bottom type with its associated class code in the attribute table. Benthic substrate maps provide important physical characteristics that can be used in habitat modeling to guide management planning of restoration and conservation efforts.

Data are included for two types of field surveys conducted for freshwater mussels throughout the Susquehanna River Basin (and one site in the Potomac River Basin) in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States from 2008-2010. Timed search (qualitative) surveys were conducted in consecutive ~200 meter sections of river (at least 8 in each stream). The number of mussels of each species and associated search time were recorded for each survey section to determine a catch per unit effort (CPUE; number of individuals found per person hour). Within qualitatively surveyed areas, one ~200 meter section of stream was selected in which to conduct quantitative surveys to estimate mussel abundance, assess presence of juvenile...

These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program and describe mussel sampling and observations conducted in the northern Gulf of Alaska. This dataset consists of six comma separated files (.csv): 1) mussel sampling site layout information, 2) mussel counts for mussels greater than 20 millimeters in a quadrat, 3) mussel size measurements for mussels greater than 20 millimeters in a quadrat, 4) mussel counts for all mussels collected from core samples, 5) mussel size frequencies for all mussels collected from core samples, and 6) list of Gulf Watch Alaska principal investigators and collaborators. This dataset includes previously released data and supersedes the USGS data release (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7WS8RD4)....

This dataset presents the results of analysis of aquatic biota tissue samples, collected over multiple sampling events from in from 2007 to 2014 at three sites (Las Vegas Bay, Overton Arm, and Boulder Basin) in Lake Mead National Recreational Area. The tissue samples were analyzed for concentrations of Carbon 13 and Nitrogen 15 isotopes by the University of California, Davis in Davis, California. Data are presented in 1 spreadsheet worksheet that is organized by year, location, and taxa. General trophic level (Vander Zanden and Rasmussen, 1999) and calculations of benthic reliance (Umek and others, 2010) also are included. Combined data from sampling events in 2007 and 2008 previously were published in Umek and...

NEAMAP stands for NorthEast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program. NEAMAP was developed to meet the needs of fisheries management and stock assessment activities in the northeastern United States. NEAMAP began in 2006 with a fall pilot survey and in 2008 began conducting both a spring and fall survey. NEAMAP samples from Cape Cod, MA south to Cape Hatteras, NC and targets both juvenile and adult fishes. NEAMAP is an integrated, cooperative state/federal data collection program. Its mission is to facilitate the collection and dissemination of fishery-independent information obtained in the Northeast for use by state and federal fisheries management agencies, the fishing industry (commercial and recreational),...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected hydroacoustic data of the St. Croix River adjacent to the Osceola (WI) boat ramp for hydrographic and benthic mapping prior to the reconstruction project implemented by the National Park Service (NPS). This dataset contains reference locations that were obtained while collecting ground-truth information for geologic substrate. For statistical analysis, the locations were selected using random point sampling. The shapefile contains sample location coordinates, a general description of interpreted surficial sediment type, and an indication of mussel presence/absence in the attribute table. These geospatial locations directly correspond to the "still-images" dataset.

Data describe designed environmental DNA (eDNA) experiments for the estimation of eDNA shedding rates for the spectaclecase (Cumberlandia monodonta) and mucket (Actinonaias ligamentina) from water samples collected in the laboratory at different water temperatures. Parameters described include descriptions of laboratory collected water samples that were tested to estimate concentration of spectaclecase, mucket or fatmucket DNA qPCR results, and associated quality assurance measurements.

The Buffalo National River in Arkansas was established as the first national river in 1972 and later designated as an Extraordinary Resource Water with a Wild and Scenic section in the upper portion. The Buffalo National River's water quality database indicates nitrogen compounds have increased since the 1980s. This study aimed to investigate the potential threat of elevated nutrients and its association with freshwater mussel declines in the Buffalo National River through laboratory and in situ exposures. We evaluated (1) the toxicity of receiving water and sediment samples containing elevated ammonia and nitrate to native juvenile Lampsilis reeveiana (Arkansas Brokenray) and three common aquatic test species (Ceriodaphnia...

The 1995 - 2007 Ecosystem History of South Florida's Estuaries Database contains listings of all sites (modern and core), modern monitoring site survey information (water chemistry, floral and faunal data, bottom type, etc.), and published core data. Three general types of data are contained within this database: 1) Modern Field Data (1995-2007), 2) Master list of location information on all modern sites, and 3) Core data - faunal assemblages and location information. Data are available for modern sites and cores in the general areas of Florida Bay, Biscayne Bay, and the southwest (Florida) coastal mangrove estuaries. Specific sites in the Florida Bay area include Taylor Creek, Bob Allen Key, Russell Bank, Pass...
The Salinity and Temperature Data for South Florida Estuarine Mollusks (1994-present) database contains salinity and temperature readings from modern monitoring sites where live mollusks were observed during fieldwork performed from 1994 to present, salinity and temperature summary statistical data for each species, and location information about the sites where the monitoring data were collected. Data are available for modern sites located in Everglades National Park (Florida Bay and the southwest Florida coastal mangrove estuaries), and Biscayne Bay (including Biscayne National Park). In the dataset, both the Salinity Occurrence Data sheet and the Temperature Occurrence Data sheet display the mean salinity or...

This dataset presents the results of passive water sampling conducted at 2 sites in 2013 and 3 sites in 2014 in Lake Mead National Recreational Area. Polar Organic Chemical Integrative Samplers (POCIS) and Semipermeable Membrane Devices (SPMDs) were deployed in Las Vegas Bay and Overton Arm in 2013 and Las Vegas Bay, Boulder Basin, and Overton Arm in 2014. The samplers were analyzed for concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorines (DDT-type compounds and their degradates), polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDEs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), waste indicators (WW), and yeast estrogen screen (YES) by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at the Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC)...
