This part of the data release provides the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (PCMSC) 2007 bathymetry data collected in Skagit Bay Washington that is provided as a 1-m resolution TIFF image, as well as a 1-m resolution shaded-relief TIFF image. FGDC metadata is also provided. In 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2010 the USGS, PCMSC collected bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data in Skagit Bay, Washington using an interferometric bathymetric sidescan-sonar system mounded to the USGS R/V Parke Snavely and the USGS R/V Karluk. The research was conducted in coordination with the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Skagit River System Cooperative, Skagit Watershed Council, Puget Sound Nearshore...

This dataset is a digital elevation model (DEM) of the bathymetry for six sites where known rock structures exist in the St. Croix River. The DEMs have a 10-cm resolution (Boom site is 0.5-m) to provide ultra-high-resolution elevations for investigating the use of hydroacoustic technologies for quantifying habitat for imperiled mussels Spectaclecase (Margaritifera monodonta) and Salamander (Simpsonaias ambigua) typically associated with rock structures (e.g., wing dams, revetment) in rivers. Bathymetry is essential for providing the depths and shapes of underwater terrain and it represents the three-dimensional features (or relief) of underwater terrain. Multibeam sonar data were collected using a Norbit integrated...

This part of the data release presents a digital elevation model (DEM) created from bathymetry data collected on February 1, 2011, in the Sacramento River from the confluence of the Feather River to Knights Landing. The data were collected by the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (PCMSC) team with collaboration and funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This project used interferometric sidescan sonar to characterize the riverbed and channel banks along a 12 mile reach of the Sacramento River, California (River Mile 79 through River Mile 91) to aid in the understanding of fish response to the creation of safe habitat associated with levee restoration efforts in two 1.5 mile reaches of the Sacramento...

This dataset is a digital surface of depth-averaged flow velocities for six sites where known rock structures exist in the St. Croix River. Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) are used to measure how fast water is moving across an entire water column. The ADCP measures water currents with sound, and the resulting flow information will be used for investigating the use of hydroacoustic technologies for quantifying habitat for imperiled mussels Spectaclecase (Margaritifera monodonta) and Salamander (Simpsonaias ambigua) typically associated with rock structures (e.g., wing dams, revetment) in rivers. River current velocities were collected using a SonTek RiverSurveyor© M9 for all six sites. All hydroacoustic...

This section of the data release provides acoustic-backscatter data collected during 2017 and 2018 multibeam echosounder surveys of Noyes Submarine Canyon and vicinity, southeast Alaska. Data were collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aboard the NOAA survey vessel Fairweather (NOAA survey D00208, Report for D00208 (noaa.gov) and NOAA survey D00245, Report for D00245 (noaa.gov)). Data provided in this data release were post-processed by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (PCMSC) for scientific geohazard projects. The acoustic-backscatter data are provided as a GeoTIFF image.

In 2015 the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG), collected bathymetry and acoustic-backscatter data near Cross Sound in southeast Alaska using a Reson 7111 multibeam echosounder mounded to the ADFG R/V Solstice. This section of the data release provides the acoustic-backscatter data as a GeoTIFF at 10-m spatial resolution. All files have accompanying FGDC metadata.

This portion of the data release presents acoustic backscatter data from the San Miguel Passage, in the Channel Islands, California. The data were collected in August 2007 by the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS, PCMSC) using a 234.5 kHz SEA (AP) Ltd. SWATHplus-M phase-differencing sidescan sonar mounted on the NOAA, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary R/V Shearwater as part of the research cruise S-2-07-SC. Data were collected in water depths up to 89 meters. The San Miguel Passage is within the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and is the body of water between the two western-most islands of the chain - Santa Rosa and San Miguel Islands. The data were processed...

Recent advances in hydroacoustic technology are proving to be valuable tools for mapping habitat features for sedentary biota such as freshwater mussels, and has the potential to identify and quantify habitat features. The Spectaclecase (Margaritifera monodonta) and Salamander (Simpsonaias ambigua) are imperiled mussels that are typically associated with rock structures (e.g., wing dams, revetment) in rivers. Hydroacoustic data were collected in early May of 2021 for 6 pre-determined sites containing rock structures within the St. Croix River, to determine whether hydroacoustics can identify and quantify habitat features for imperiled mussels such as the Spectaclecase and Salamander.

Acoustic-backscatter data were collected during a 2018 swath survey in the Cache Slough Complex and the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel, California. Data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) during USGS field activity 2018-684-FA, using interferometric bathymetric sidescan sonar systems mounded to the USGS R/V San Lorenzo and the R/V Kelpfly. The backscatter data are provided as GeoTIFF images.
