Daily HOBO Pro V.2 soil temperature measurements at the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge (2015-2017). Data collected in Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Southern VA and Northern NC from 9 plot sites representing three general forest types: Atlantic White Cedar, Pocosin Pine, and Maple and Gum.

We identified nine study site locations, representing three mature vegetation communities [Atlantic White Cedar (desired community), tall pine pocosin (desired community), and red maple/black gum mixed (undesired community)] with typical water depth within each vegetation type. All measurements were replicated three times (3 vegetation types x 3 replicates = 9 sites total). We installed four flux chambers at each site to collect GHG fluxes from all nine sites. We measured CO2 and CH4 using a Los Gatos Research Ultra Portable Greenhouse Gas Analyzer and two-part 760 cm2 flux chambers (chamber base remained in situ; chamber top was placed on the bottom only when sampling). We checked the gas fluxes on a monthly time-table...

Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), downhole nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and manual permafrost-probe measurements were used to quantify permafrost characteristics along transects within several catchments in interior Alaska in late summer 2016 and 2017. Geophysical sites were chosen to coincide with additional soil, hydrologic, and geochemical measurements adjacent to various low-order streams and tributaries in a mix of burned and unburned watersheds in both silty and rocky environments. Data were collected in support of the Striegl-01 NASA ABoVE project, "Vulnerability of inland waters and the aquatic carbon cycle to changing permafrost and climate across boreal northwestern North America." Additional...
Upon reactivation, movement of deep-seated landslides in the Greater Pittsburgh region may persist for long periods of time. Monitoring equipment was located at two sites on a deep-seated rockslide in Aleppo Township, Pennsylvania to establish relationships between precipitation and changes in the state of activity and velocity. Precipitation, snow depth, and air temperature are monitored at a weather station (ARS_WS) located in a relatively flat, open area in the northern part of the rockslide. Displacement and soil moisture are monitored at a second site located in the southern part of a graben (ARS_GR) in the head of the rockslide. At ARS_WS, instrumentation includes a tipping bucket rain gauge, temperature probe,...

Soil gas methane and combustible gas concentrations collected from oil and gas well pad locations in Utah. Soil gas samples were measured on site and/or collected for later analysis as described in supporting documentation. Multiple sample locations around well head and depths within the soil profile are available for select sites. Supporting documents provide information of sample collection protocol and data quality assurance.

This dataset includes example data used for demonstration of the moisturEC program. This includes inverted electrical resistivity data, model resolution from the inversion, point moisture information, and conductivity-saturation calibration information. The data are from a field site in Coventry, CT outfitted with five, Decagon 5TE moisture probes, arranged along a 28 m transect at different depths. The data represent a slice in time after irrigating the soil for 12 hours.

The recent completion of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) for New Orleans has effectively blocked surface water exchange between Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge (BSNWR) and the surrounding Lake(s) Pontchartrain and Borgne and the Gulf of Mexico to which it was once connected. Monitoring changes in hydrology, water quality, bird habitat variability, and resident waterbird and nekton communities within BSNWR is important to the long-term sustainability of these aquatic resources for use by visitors and aquatic life in these habitats. In particular, landscape and hydrologic modifications from management and restoration projects in southeastern Louisiana...

This data release presents measurements and derived parameters for attributes of bulk density, loss on ignition, soil-water retention, and hydraulic conductivity for a site (adjacent to Richardson Creek) near Hess Creek in interior Alaska, USA. These measurements are useful for hydrologic modeling and predictions of water availability in this region. All methods for sample collection, sample processing, data file column headings, and data annotations are explained in the metadata files.

This USGS data release represents tabular data for a process to estimate net infiltration using a site-scale water-budget approach, Rainier Mesa, Nevada National Security Site, 2002-05. This dataset consists of the following: (1) Measured and corrected precipitation data from A12 weather station, Rainier Mesa, Nevada National Security Site, July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2005. (2) Inventory of net radiation, latent-heat flux, and sensible-heat flux gap-filled periods, pinyon-juniper evapotranspiration (ET) station, Rainier Mesa, Nevada National Security Site, January, 2002 to August, 2005. (3) Inventory of net radiation, latent-heat flux, and sensible-heat flux gap-filled periods, scrub-brush ET station, Rainier Mesa,...
