Two non-native bigheaded carp species have invaded the Illinois River system and are a potential threat to the Great Lakes ecosystem. Discharges from industry, wastewater treatment plants, and urban and agricultural runoff, may be a factor contributing to the stalling of the upstream movement of the bigheaded carp population front near Illinois Waterway mile 278. In 2015, the U.S. Geological Survey collected 4 sets of water samples under a range of seasonal and hydrologic conditions from 3 locations upstream and 4 locations downstream from river mile 278 using a Lagrangian-style sampling strategy. River bathymetry and stream velocity measurements were collected in March 2015 along the upper Willamette River, Oregon, between Eugene and Corvallis. These surveys were collected over a small range of discharges using a real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) and acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) on a motorboat while transecting at various cross sections along the river. These datasets were collected for equipment calibration and validation for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission. This is one of multiple survey datasets that will be released for this effort.

This paper presents a method for determining the causes of salinization of surface waters, in this case the upper Colorado River and its tributaries in Texas. The analysis, which includes a combination of statistical analysis and graphical methods, indicates that among the sources of salt (e.g., saline ground water discharge into surface waters and storm runoff, both surface and shallow subsurface, and washing minerals into surface waters) the major contributor is saline ground water, which discharges into the river and streams. This data release consists of three geophysical data sets measured in the lower Guadalupe River channel, south-central Texas, and one supplementary geophysical data set measured in a laboratory. The lower Guadalupe River is incised into the outcrop of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer in south-central Texas. The river and the aquifer are hydraulically connected across the outcrop, although the connectivity is obscured by alluvium and surface-water and groundwater exchange dynamics are currently poorly understood. The files contained on this site are for use with the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) for the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS), developed by the Modeling of Watershed Systems (MoWS) group of the U.S. Geological Survey. PRMS is a daily deterministic watershed-scale model (Markstrom and others, 2015), and can be used at a conterminous United States (CONUS) extent with on the Geospatial Fabric (Viger and Bock, 2014) in the NHM infrastructure (Regan and others, 2018). Okmok volcano, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, explosively erupted over a five-week period between July 12 and August 23, 2008. The eruption was predominantly phreatomagmatic, producing fine-grained tephra that covered most of northeastern Umnak Island. The eruption had a maximum Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of 4, with eruption column heights up to 16 km during the opening phase. Several craters and a master tuff cone formed in the caldera as a result of phreatomagmatic explosions and accumulated tephra-fall and surge deposits. To accurately estimate agricultural water use or to project future water demands, a detailed inventory of current irrigated crop acreage is needed at a high level of resolution. In many Florida counties this kind of detailed high-resolution inventory is not available. A detailed digital map and summary of irrigated acreage during the 2015 growing season was developed for 13 of the 15 counties that compose the Suwannee River Water Management District. The USGS Ecosystems Mission Area Water Quality Across Regional Stream Networks project focuses on the generation, flux, and biogeochemistry of water quality constituents at multiple temporal and spatial scales in stream networks. This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides surface water quality and groundwater elevation data collected by USGS personnel within the Central Pine Barrens (CPB) Region of Suffolk County, New York, from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022. The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven as part of a comprehensive water resources monitoring program during 2017 to 2023. The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 17 wells in the Indio subbasin (CA basin designation 7-21.01) of the Coachella Valley and surface water samples from two sites representing sources of recharge to the Indio subbasin in 2021. This child item contains self-potential (SP) data collected over a small alpine wetland between Mogul Mine and Cement Creek located near Silverton, Colorado. Mine-impacted water is transported to Cement Creek via surface channels and groundwater through this wetland. The SP method measures passive voltages in the subsurface using a high impedance voltmeter with one fixed electrode at a base station and one mobile electrode. Strong self-potential anomalies have been associated with ore bodies and sharp redox fronts. Data were collected with an Agilent U1252B multimeter with STELTH3 Ag-AgCl Model SRE-011-SPB porous pot electrodes. Additional details are contained in the ‘readme.txt’ file within this directory.

This child item contains frequency domain electromagnetic induction (FDEM) data collected along and around Cement Creek California Gulch, and the Animas River near Silverton, Colorado in support of other data collected at the site. The FDEM tool generates an EM field and measures eddy currents generated by conductive and/or magnetic materials in the subsurface in response to the applied field. A Geophex GEM-2 instrument with GPS was used with frequencies ranging from 450 Hz to 47970 Hz. Additional details are contained in the ‘readme.txt’ files within each zip data directory.

In addition, the table provides acreage totals by crop type published by the U.S. Department of Commerce for 1978 and 1982 and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for years between 1987 and 2012.
