From August 2018 to October 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey collected spatially high-resolution water quality data as part of five shoreline synoptic surveys around the perimeters of Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes within the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Water-quality data were collected just below water surface utilizing YSI EXO2 multiparameter sondes and portable nitrate sensors paired with real-time GPS data as part of a HABs monitoring program in the Finger Lakes. In October 2019, water-quality data collection was paired with discrete phytoplankton grab samples on Owasco Lake and Seneca Lake. Transects of near-surface continuous water-quality data and vertical profiles of the same parameters were collected over a 24-hour period from September 7 to September 8, 2023 in the Arthur Kill. The Arthur Kill is a tidal strait located between Staten Island, New York, and Union and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey, and connects Newark Bay to the north and Raritan Bay to the south. It is a major shipping channel for the Port of New York and New Jersey surrounded by industrial and highly developed land. The dataset contains model coefficients and statistics for the 488 regression models used to estimate streamwater constituent loads for 13 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia for two calibration periods, water years 2003-2010 and 2010-2020. This dataset describes the quantity and morphology of microplastics in water, surficial sediment, sediment core, fish, and shellfish samples from Lake Mead National Recreation Area (Nevada/Arizona). Water and surficial sediment samples were collected once at 9 locations. A sediment core (33 cm long) was extracted from Las Vegas Bay to assess changes in microplastic deposition over time. This dataset includes per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and pharmaceuticals monitored at 62 sampling sites in tributaries of the Laurentian Great Lakes. Chemicals were evaluated in a sediment sample (PFAS only) and water concentrations were estimated using polar organic chemical integrative samplers (POCIS). Sediment samples were collected from the 62 sites in June and July 2018, which were analyzed for 23 PFAS compounds using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). This dataset contains quality assurance sample concentrations for 19 constituents for the 15 monitored watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia, from 2000 to 2020. Samples include 431 replicate pairs and 335 field blanks. Replicate sampling allows for comparison of water quality to assess the combined variability in sample representativeness and laboratory precision and can also be used to identify possible sample contamination. Field blanks, samples of deionized “blank” water collected using the same sampling equipment and similar methodology as routine samples, were used to identify any possible contamination from field collection equipment and methodology.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers—Louisville District conducted a pilot study on the use of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) for a survey of water conditions during August 2016 in a portion of Nolin River Lake, Kentucky.
