The Mineral Development Atlas (MDA) was a joint project by the United State Geological Survey (USGS), the United States Bureau of Mines (USBM), and the state surveys of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa, and was launched in 1945 to gather information about mining and exploration in the lead-zinc district. The Atlas consists of section maps at 1:2400 scale showing exploration and mining activity in the lead-zinc district of the Upper Mississippi Valley. When the USGS offices in Platteville, WI closed, the Atlas was distributed to the states. The Wisconsin portion covers primarily Grant, Iowa, and Lafayette Counties, and WGNHS is currently working towards making the Wisconsin portion of the Atlas publicly available online....
The recipient will collaborate with the BEACONs Project team to support the NWB LCC in the application of the Conservation Matrix Model (CMM), as developed by BEACONs, within the NWB LCC planning region. The Northwest Boreal Landscape Conservation Cooperative, working with a diverse group of managers and stakeholders, initiated development of a coordinated monitoring system for the northwest boreal ecoregion in 2016. The goal for the coordinated monitoring system is to provide a set of common denominators (i.e., minimum standards) that will allow cooperators to combine monitoring data to make landscape-scale inferences. The Alaska Center for Conservation Science at the University of Alaska Anchorage, in partnership with the Northwest Boreal Landscape Conservation Cooperative, embarked on a project to map and quantify the human footprint across interior Alaska and northwestern Canada. Partners developed a simulation model to better show how various projections associated with increased marine traffic in the Bering Sea might look in the coming decades.
