Data presented are results of surveys in 2022 for Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus) in San Diego County, California. Surveys were conducted at the 2016-19 nest monitoring locations (Cleveland National Forest, Rey River Ranch, and Vista Irrigation District) and at Lake Henshaw along the Upper San Luis Rey River. Surveys were conducted along multiple sections of the river where permission to access properties could be obtained. Locations were surveyed using a standardized protocol three to four times between 15 May and 31 July. Hawaiian hoary bats ('ōpe'ape'a; Lasiurus semotus) were captured and tracked back to roosting locations on Hawaiʻi Island from 2018-2021. We examined resource selection at multiple spatial scales - perch location within a roost tree, roost tree, and forest stand. We used a discrete choice modeling approach to investigate roost selection and describe attributes of day-roost trees including those used as maternity roosts. ‘Ōpe‘ape‘a were found roosting in a variety of tree species and in an assortment of habitat types including native and non-native habitats. Hawaiian hoary bats ('ōpe'ape'a; Lasiurus semotus) were captured and tracked back to roosting locations on Hawaiʻi Island. Roost stand metrics were observed and collected from 2018 to 2021. We observed a total of 123 roost trees used by 90 bats (29 female; 58 male; 3 unknown). This data file includes data pertaining to roost stand metrics including, elevation, slope, canopy tree species, and mean canopy height.

Alala, or Hawaiian Crow (Corvus hawaiiensis), were extinct in the wild since the early 2000s. The first effort to reintroduce captive bred Alala back into the wild was conducted at Puu Makaala Natural Area Reserve on Hawaii Island. The 2017 release cohort were released in two stages and were the only Alala in the wild. Using automated radio telemetry tracking towers (n=4) that were distributed around the release area, we tracked the birds from September 26, 2017, to May 19, 2018, to document early exploratory movement of these birds in the wild.

Our objectives were to examine the population history of axis deer on Maui, estimate observed population growth, and then use species-specific demographic parameters in a VORTEX population viability analysis to examine removal scenarios that would most effectively reduce the population. Only nine deer were introduced in 1959, but recent estimates of >10,000 deer suggest population growth rates (r) ranging between 0.147 and 0.160 although at least 11,200 have been removed by hunters and resource managers. Native and introduced forest birds were captured and then released across the Hawaiian Islands to acquire a blood sample for obtaining DNA and test for exposure to avian malaria (Plasmodium relictum). A total of 2,945 samples were collected and analyzed for avian malaria prevalence from 39 species captured at 66 sites from Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and Hawaii islands.

These data represent a case study on managing the invasive brown treesnake (Boiga irregularis) on Guam within a 5 ha snake enclosure located on Northern Guam. The site code (NWFN or North West Field North) reflects a location on Andersen Air Force Base, Northern Guam, which has been a study site for close to two decades. These data are the collection of generalized linear mixed models run for AIC comparison of the pre- and post-White-nose Syndrome bat mist-net captures and percent juveniles in capture by year, time since White-nose Syndrome at collection set, U.S Fish and Wildlife Service designated geographic units, states or NABAT grid cell, collection site mean temperature, collection site temperature range and collection site elevation. Models are inclusive of data from 1999-2019 for the little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus), northern long-eared bat (Myotis septentrionalis) and the tri-colored bat (Perimyotis subflavus).

This volume's release consists of 64642 media files captured by autonomous wildlife monitoring devices under the project, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The attached files listed below include several CSV files that provide information about the data release. The file, "media.csv" provides the metadata about the media, such as filename and date/time of capture. The actual media files are housed within folders under the volume's "child items" as compressed files. A critical CSV file is "dictionary.csv", which describes each CSV file, including field names, data types, descriptions, and the relationship of each field to fields other CSV files. Informed wildlife management requires robust information regarding population status, habitat requirements, and likely responses to changing resource conditions. Growing evidence indicates single species management may inadequately conserve communities and result in undesired effects to non-target species. Thus, management can benefit from habitat relationship information for multiple species within, and across, ecosystems. We live-trapped black-tailed prairie dogs on Buffalo Gap National Grassland, South Dakota, 2020-2021. We anesthetized trapped animals (and their fleas) with isoflurane in induction chambers for processing. We combed each individual with a fine-tooth comb for 30 seconds to remove and count fleas. The total flea count from an individual prairie dog was considered an index of flea abundance. We released all animals, after they were recovered from anesthesia, at the location where they were captured. Data were collected on sites treated with fipronil "FipBit" bait pellets for systemic flea control with prairie dogs. The dataset is comprised of historical observations and predictions of winter colony counts at known sites for three bat species (little brown bat, Myotis lucifugus; tricolored bat, Perimyotis subflavus; and big brown bat, Eptesicus fuscus).
